Editorial Contributors are the voice of BLACKSTAR Haus. We're looking for writers, interviewers, and reporters who are already embedded in the scenes they cover. We need people who know the culture from the inside out, move fast when a story breaks, and write with the authority that comes from being there. You'll be on the ground finding stories everyone else is missing while working with a global team to uncover Ghanaian stories and give them a high-end editorial treatment, helping build a new standard of global Ghanaian media.
ResponsibilitiesPitch and produce features, interviews, cultural commentary, and news pieces across our editorial pillars and in our editorial voice.
Find emerging artists, designers, and musicians before they hit the mainstream.
Attend studio visits, gallery openings, and events on assignment to get the full story.
Pitch fresh ideas and help decide what the publication covers next.
2+ years of experience in editorial writing, digital storytelling, or cultural curation.
A strong portfolio or digital archive showing your writing style.
You are an active participant in your city's creative scene and know exactly who is up and coming.
You can write long-form cultural analysis as well as quick news hits depending on the assignment.
You can handle a fast-paced editorial calendar and hit your deadlines independently.
A genuine understanding of the Ghanaian diaspora and its influence on global trends.
We are a new, independent publication, and our current budget reflects that. We operate on a flat-rate commission model for all published editorial content.
Standard Editorial: $50 USD per published article or feature.
Commissions: Payment is guaranteed only for commissioned pitches and assigned briefs.
Creative Credit: You will always receive full bylines and tags for your work across our website, social media channels, and anywhere else your piece is distributed.
Project Funding: For select high-impact features (like travel-based reporting or original photography), we occasionally provide extra production support and expense coverage. This requires prior approval and is decided on a case-by-case basis. Pitching a project does not automatically guarantee expense funding.
Payment Terms: All fees are processed upon publication.

Based in the US and operating between Accra, London, and New York, it serves as a digital voice for Ghanaian creative culture, covering music, fashion, film, TV, and visual culture both within Ghana and across its global diaspora.
