Position Purpose

CASE's ability to strengthen the advancement profession depends on attracting capable people into it, and keeping them progressing once they arrive. The Director, Career Journeys, holds both halves of that responsibility.

The position leads CASE's programs that create entry points into advancement, including the CASE Advancement Internship Program, a graduate-entry pathway, and routes into the profession for people arriving from other fields at mid-career. It maps those programs to the CASE Competency Model and the Career Journey Framework so that participants leave with demonstrated capability and a defined next step. It then owns the relationship with participants after their program ends, ensuring that entry into advancement becomes the start of a career rather than a placement that concludes.

The position is expected to grow the financial strength of these programs while holding to their primary purpose. A pathway program must sustain itself to last long enough to build anything, and it must be managed for mission, not just margin, to build the profession. The core functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Applies the Career Journey Framework to program design and sequencing, so that each program has a clear position in the career arc and a clear relationship to what precedes and follows it.
  • Maintains the mapping as programs evolve and as the Competency Model is updated, and contributes practitioner insight from program delivery back into the division's stewardship of both frameworks.
  • Produces competency-based reporting on participant outcomes that member institutions, host supervisors, and CASE colleagues can act on.

PROGRESSION AND CONTINUITY

  • Owns the relationship with participants after their program concludes, maintaining a defined pathway from programs into CASE membership, education offerings, and the wider professional community.
  • Builds and stewards a community of program alumni across cohorts, regions, and years, developing it as a source of future volunteers, mentors, host supervisors, and program advocates.
  • Works with colleagues across the Education division to design the handoff from entry programs into conferences, institutes, and online programming, so that a participant's next step is specific rather than general.
  • Tracks participant progression over time, including retention in the profession and career movement, and reports on the long-term contribution of CASE's pathway programs to the advancement talent pipeline.
  • Cultivates host institutions as ongoing partners across the arc, connecting institutions that host early talent to CASE's broader education portfolio.

Financial and outcome measures are weighted together, so that the program is not managed to seat count alone.
