Job Title: Upper School Computer Science  

Job Description  

The Upper School Computer Science and Technology Instructor is responsible for teaching a variety of technology courses within the Upper School curriculum. The instructor will work closely with the Educational Technology Department to ensure the progress of students in the technology program and to support the implementation of innovative instructional practices and technology integration throughout the Upper School. 

Job Responsibilities 

• Plan and teach technology and computer science courses, including introductory programming, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, CAD/CAM, Cybersecurity, Fabrication I, and Artificial Intelligence.  

• Utilize the Code.org curriculum alongside other supplemental resources to deliver engaging instruction.  

• Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate understanding through the use of project-based learning and varied, authentic assessment practices. 

• Support the continued development of the integration of technology into the curriculum and optimize the use of technology in teaching and learning, in partnership with the Educational Technology department and school administrators.  

• Help establish an environment that encourages innovative, creative, and independent use of instructional technology throughout the School. 

• Participate in professional growth activities that result in enhanced knowledge of best practices in computer science, instructional technology, digital learning, and innovative teaching methods. 

• Communicate clearly and professionally with students and parents about course content, expectations, and student progress. 

• Participate in parent conferences and student check-ins as needed. 

• Serve on school committees and participate in broader school life. 

• Participate in school-wide events, Chapel, faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development opportunities. 

• Uphold school rules and policies with consistency and clear expectations. 

• Serves as an advisor to students, guiding students in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal development and acting as primary liaison to parents/guardians. 

• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment. 

• Serve as an active member of the Technology Department, attend department meetings, collaborate across divisions, and contribute to school-wide initiatives. 

Qualifications  

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an education-related field; Master’s degree preferred. 

• Three to five years of classroom teaching experience preferred. 

• Experience teaching computer science, with specific preference for experience teaching AP-level computer science, CAD/CAM, and Graphic Design. 

• Knowledge and experience with integrating technology into the classroom. 

• Committed to creating a student-centered, engaging classroom experience. 

• Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently and as a team member. 

• Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. 

• High level of integrity, dependability, and sound judgment.
