FreshAhead runs daily operations across one of the largest fresh-cut produce ecosystems in the world. Fields, facilities, trucks, forecasts… our software lives in the physical world, where it either works or it doesn't.
What we're buildingSoftware for people who don't have time for bad software. The interface has to be fast, legible, and obvious under real conditions.
Who we're looking forA designer with real visual craft who also understands why a screen works, not just how to make it look good. We're titling this role UI on purpose. A lot of people claim UX, but we want to see the pixels. The job runs the full width: research and structure through to high-fidelity and handoff.
You might be a fit if:
- You have a portfolio that shows genuine visual and interaction craft, and you can walk us through the why behind the work.
- You're fluent in Figma, prototyping, and design systems.
- You're grounded in the fundamentals: research, information architecture, interaction design.
- You design for the real user in the real context, and you go find out what that context actually is.
- You hand off clean, and you stay engaged through implementation.
- Own the interface: high-fidelity design, interaction, and the visual language across every surface of the product.
- Build and maintain a design system that holds up as the product and team grow.
- Do the upstream work (information architecture, flows, wireframes) before committing to hi-fi.
- Talk to users. Run interviews and usability tests, and turn what you learn into concrete design changes.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and Customer Experience from concept through shipped.
This isn't a role where Product hands you a spec and you skin it. This isn't visual-only. If you want to do interface polish without touching research or structure, this is the wrong seat. We want a designer who owns the problem from question to pixel.
What you'll getOwnership of the product's entire interface and design system, real users with real problems to design for, and a team that cares about the craft.
On-site, San Luis Obispo, CA. Compensation commensurate with experience.
Skills Required
- Portfolio demonstrating strong visual and interaction design craft, with the ability to explain design rationale
- Fluency in Figma, prototyping, and design systems
- Knowledge of user research, information architecture, and interaction design fundamentals
- Ability to design for real users and investigate their operating context
- Ability to produce clean design handoffs and stay engaged through implementation
- Experience conducting user interviews and usability tests
