Summary Generated by Built In

The Technical Project Manager brings deep technical expertise in infrastructure, database systems, and cloud platforms that the broader PMO does not otherwise have, and independently plans and manages complex technical initiatives, such as systems implementations, integrations, and data projects, from initiation through closeout. Beyond project delivery, this role owns MedRisk's enterprise relationship with Microsoft and helps establish the metrics and reporting needed to launch the organization's FinOps practice. The Technical Project Manager also serves as a consultative technical resource on projects led by other Project Managers, offering infrastructure, database, and cloud expertise to teams and stakeholders who are less skilled in these areas. This role translates technical requirements from engineering and IT teams into actionable project plans, and serves as the primary liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure dependencies and constraints are clearly understood and managed. The Technical Project Manager applies PMO governance, methodology, and standards to complex technical work, proactively identifies and resolves risks and blockers, and delivers clear, technically-informed status reporting to leadership. This position requires strong technical judgment, sound decision-making, and a high level of discretion, along with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Technical Project Planning & Execution

  • Independently plan and manage complex technical initiatives, such as systems implementations, integrations, and data projects, from initiation through closeout, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
  • Translate technical requirements from engineering and IT teams into actionable project plans, timelines, and milestones.

Cross-Functional & Technical Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering, IT, and business stakeholders, ensuring technical dependencies and constraints are clearly understood and managed.
  • Coordinate across multiple technical teams (e.g., infrastructure, data, development) to align priorities and sequence interdependent work.

Risk & Issue Management

  • Proactively identify technical risks, dependencies, and blockers, and drive timely resolution in partnership with engineering leads and stakeholders.
  • Escalate significant risks, issues, and resource conflicts promptly to the Director of PMO to avoid project delays.

Governance & Reporting

  • Apply PMO governance, methodology, and standards to technical projects, adapting them as needed to fit complex or highly technical initiatives.
  • Deliver clear, technically-informed status reporting to stakeholders and leadership, translating complex technical progress into business-relevant terms.
  • Adhere to MedRisk’s standard practices and policies to maintain the integrity and quality of project deliverables.

Vendor & Enterprise Relationship Management

  • Own and manage MedRisk’s enterprise relationship with Microsoft, including licensing and contract coordination, escalation management, and roadmap alignment.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Microsoft account teams, ensuring the organization maximizes value from its enterprise agreement.

FinOps Enablement

  • Partner with finance and technology leadership to define the metrics, dashboards, and reporting needed to launch the organization’s FinOps practice.
  • Support ongoing cost visibility and optimization efforts across cloud and infrastructure spend as the FinOps function matures.

Technical Consultation & Advisory

  • Serve as a consultative technical resource on projects led by other Project Managers, offering infrastructure, database, and cloud expertise to teams that lack deep technical skill in these areas.
  • Advise less-technical stakeholders on best practices, feasibility, and risk considerations for infrastructure, database, and cloud-related decisions, without owning delivery of those projects.

Professional Development

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical project management practices and emerging systems, integration, and data trends relevant to the organization.

Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of project management experience, including managing complex technical projects such as systems implementations, integrations, or data initiatives

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to translate technical detail for non-technical audiences
  • Deep technical expertise in infrastructure, database systems, and cloud platforms, sufficient to manage complex technical projects and act as a subject matter expert for other teams
  • Advanced analytical and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage vendor and enterprise partner relationships, including contract, licensing, and escalation coordination
  • Preferred:
  • Experience leading Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery for technical or IT-driven projects

  • Experience with system integrations, data migrations, or infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices and engineering workflows
