Position Title: Teacher's Aide

Short Description: The elementary classroom aide will assist the teacher and students with daily tasks, activities, and recess supervision. This position also includes helping during the preschool lunch period in the school cafeteria.

Hourly Role: Pay Range: $17.00 to $19.00 per hour

Classification: Part-time. Expected hours per week: 22.5. Office hours will be necessary

Position Purpose

The essential role of the Catholic school aide is to bear witness to the Gospel message and to lead students in reflecting on a Christian approach to life, while building the faith community. An aide should provide students the opportunities to develop their gifts as peacemakers and stewards for the service of the world community. This role is accomplished through instructional techniques and interactive processes that enable students to use their creative talents to become Catholic adults in the 21st century who are problem solvers and makers of just decisions.

Under the general supervision of the Classroom teacher and School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing Diocese approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

The classroom aide agrees to abide by and uphold the faith and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church during the school day and in our community.

Essential Functions

  • Share and support the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school
  • Develops and administers the school's early childhood curriculum consistent with Diocesan goals and objectives.
  • Assist students, colleagues, principal, and parents in creating a school climate that fosters growth in faith, academics, and citizenship.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, as well as student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Teach Catholic values and stories of faith with commitment in the daily curriculum.
  • Develop formal and informal prayer experiences. Cooperatively plan assigned liturgies/prayer services with the religion coordinator and other personnel.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other early elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place outside the classroom during the school day, including those involving school transportation.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with Diocesan testing programs.

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Doctrine and witness of Gospel values
  • Knowledge of early childhood school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to handle confidential and/or official information with discretion.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation about performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Professionalism in attire, communication, and demeanor.

Qualifications Profile

• Will be required to complete the Safe Environment requirements of the Rockford Diocese Virtus

Online program.

• Will be required to complete CPR/First Aid training.
