Company Description: Systemiq is the system change company, working to accelerate the transition to a net-zero, nature-positive and more inclusive economy. As a certified B Corp, we partner with business, finance, policymakers and civil society to transform five interconnected systems: energy, nature and food, materials and circularity, sustainable finance, and urban transformation.

We bring together strategy, policy, market design and capital mobilisation to deliver tangible results in the real economy. Founded in 2016, Systemiq has grown to a global team of more than 300 people across Brazil, France, Germany, Indonesia, Kenya, the Netherlands, the UK and the US, united by a singular focus on sustainability.

Role: Strategy Consultant, Contractor (Associate to Manager)

Location: London ( preferred but flexible pending on skillset)

Join Systemiq's contractor network

We are looking for experienced consultants at Associate to Manager level to support Systemiq teams on a flexible, project basis.

We currently have several live contractor opportunities and expect further needs to arise across our teams over the coming months. We are therefore looking both for people who may be able to join projects in the near term and for strong consultants interested in future opportunities with Systemiq.

Our work spans energy, nature and food, materials and circular economy, sustainable finance, and the built environment. You do not need to be a specialist in one of these areas. We are particularly interested in strong generalist consultants who can get up to speed quickly, bring structure to complex problems and deliver high-quality work in fast-moving project environments.

The role

As a contractor at Systemiq, you will join a project team for a defined period and contribute to strategy, analysis and delivery. Depending on the project, you may work with businesses, governments, financial institutions, foundations and civil society organisations on complex sustainability and systems change challenges.

The scope will vary depending on your experience and the needs of the project. You could:

  • Structure complex problems: Develop clear approaches to ambiguous strategic questions and identify the analysis needed to answer them.
  • Conduct analysis and research: Undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis, research and synthesis to build a strong evidence base.
  • Develop clear insights: Turn complex information into concise conclusions, recommendations and high-quality client-ready outputs.
  • Own workstreams: Take responsibility for defined areas of work and deliver high-quality outputs to agreed timelines.
  • Engage with stakeholders: Support or lead client and stakeholder interactions, including meetings, interviews and workshops.
  • Support project delivery: Work closely with Systemiq colleagues while operating independently and adapting quickly as project needs evolve.
  • Lead others where appropriate: At more senior levels, manage workstreams, guide junior team members and build effective relationships with senior clients and stakeholders.

 Who we are looking for

We welcome applications from consultants operating at Associate, Senior Associate and Manager level, or those with equivalent experience from strategy, management consulting or other advisory environments.

You are likely to bring:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to bring structure to complex or ambiguous questions.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • The ability to synthesise complex information into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Experience producing concise, high-quality outputs for senior audiences.
  • Experience working in project-based environments and delivering to tight timelines.
  • Confidence working with clients and other senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to learn quickly and work effectively across unfamiliar topics.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic and adaptable working style.

For more senior contractor opportunities, we will also look for experience managing substantial workstreams, guiding other team members and engaging confidently with senior clients.

Previous sustainability or climate experience is very welcome, but it is not essential. We are interested in strong generalist consultants as well as candidates with expertise relevant to our work across energy, nature and food, materials and circular economy, sustainable finance, and the built environment.

Location and contracting approach

London is our preferred location, and we also welcome candidates who can work with our teams in Amsterdam or Nairobi.

We recognise that strong candidates may be based elsewhere. For candidates whose experience is a particularly strong match for our project needs, fully remote arrangements may also be considered, depending on the requirements of the individual project.

Contract length, start date and time commitment will vary depending on project needs. Some of our current opportunities may require availability at relatively short notice.

Current and future opportunities

We are recruiting for several immediate contractor needs, while also building our contractor network for future projects.

If we do not contact you immediately, this does not necessarily mean that your application has been unsuccessful. Our project needs change regularly, and we may get in touch when an opportunity arises that is a strong match for your experience, location and availability.

If you are an experienced consultant interested in applying your skills to sustainability and systems change challenges, we would be pleased to hear from you.
