The Opportunity

We're looking for someone to keep our financial operations running smoothly. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Senior Director of Finance to maintain complete and accurate accounting records across our offices in the US and South Korea. From day-to-day transactions to month-end close, your work makes all of our life-changing work possible.



What you'll do

  • Oversee regular bookkeeping activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, deposits, and payroll journal entries.
    • Process external payments to vendors, third party contractors, and clients.
    • Assist the development (fundraising) team by providing invoices for mid-tier and major gift donors.
    • Work alongside the development team to log and track offline donations, such as checks and direct deposits.
    • Prepare bi-monthly payroll journal entries.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, including bank accounts, payment processing accounts, credit card accounts, etc. 
  • Review and approve monthly expense reports submitted by staff members across both offices as to ensure accurate financial records.
    • Answer questions and provide training support and report feedback to staff.
    • Correct transactions and reports with errors.
    • Set up prepaid schedules for long-term licenses and fixed assets. 
  • Maintain various accounting schedules (temp restricted net assets, prepaid/accrued expenses, assets/depreciation) and prepare/post corresponding journal entries.
  • Provide preparation and fieldwork support for the annual external audit and assist with the submission of the Form 990. 
  • Conduct internal audits of financial activity and internal controls in order to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Finance and budget managers to develop, manage, and review organizational budgets on a quarterly basis
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports for the executive leadership team and Board of Directors. 
  • Provide managers with ad-hoc financial support, such as off-cycle budget reports and expense breakdowns.
  • Partake in a system of checks & balances with the Senior Director of Finance through the approval of reports, journal entries, and payments going out of the organization.
  • Provide office administration and operations support as needed.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (accounting, finance, or business preferred)
  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations 
  •  3+ years of accounting experience
  • Proficiency with Netsuite and Expensify (or similar softwares) 
  • Excellent working knowledge of Google Workspace, and advanced knowledge of Google Sheets
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail

Location

This role is based at our headquarters in Long Beach at 115 Pine Ave, Long Beach, CA.

We work on a hybrid schedule and come into the office once a week on Wednesdays.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree; accounting, finance, or business preferred
  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience
