Job Summary
The Senior Procurement Mechanical Engineer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and expediting mechanical materials, equipment, spare parts, and services to support projects, operations, and maintenance activities. The role ensures technical compliance with mechanical specifications, drawings, and applicable standards while achieving cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
The position works closely with mechanical engineering, projects, maintenance, QA/QC, planning, and finance teams to support capital projects and operational requirements. A strong mechanical engineering background is essential for effective technical evaluation of vendor offers, BOMs, datasheets, and compliance with international standards.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Execute mechanical procurement activities in line with project schedules, maintenance plans, and organizational requirements.
Review mechanical specifications, drawings, BOQs/BOMs, and datasheets to ensure accurate sourcing.
Identify long-lead and critical mechanical items and support procurement planning to mitigate schedule risks.
Source and prequalify vendors for mechanical equipment, materials, and services.
Perform technical evaluations of vendor offers to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Coordinate with engineering and QA/QC teams for technical clarifications and approvals.
Prepare and issue RFQs/RFPs for mechanical packages and materials.
Conduct techno-commercial bid evaluations and prepare comparison sheets.
Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, warranties, performance guarantees, and payment terms.
Prepare purchase orders in accordance with approved technical and commercial terms.
Ensure purchase orders and contracts comply with company procurement policies and engineering standards.
Support contract administration activities including variation management, claims, and close-out.
Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical codes and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, etc.).
Coordinate with suppliers, logistics, and site teams to ensure timely delivery of mechanical items.
Track order progress, manufacturing, inspection, and shipment status.
Resolve delivery, quality, and documentation issues in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
Monitor procurement costs and support cost optimization initiatives.
Maintain procurement records, vendor data, and documentation.
Prepare procurement status reports, expediting logs, and cost summaries.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional procurement or project management certifications (CIPS, CPM, CPSM, PMP) are an advantage.
Experience
Minimum 4–7 years of experience in procurement or supply chain roles with a strong focus on mechanical procurement.
Hands-on experience procuring mechanical equipment, piping materials, valves, HVAC systems, rotating and static equipment, and spare parts.
Technical Skills
Strong ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, datasheets, and BOMs.
Knowledge of mechanical equipment and materials used in industrial and infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with international standards and codes (ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, DIN).
Proficiency in ERP systems and procurement tools.
Understanding of supplier evaluation, contract terms, and procurement best practices.
Soft Skills
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Analytical and detail-oriented with good problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple procurement packages and meet deadlines.
Strong coordination skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Skills Required
