Position Summary
The Sr. Manager, Category Analytics will report directly to the VP, Walmart and is responsible for the Walmart business that leads the development and execution of data driven strategies that support business growth across the portfolio. This role owns Walmart's Scintilla data assets as the primary analytics platform and partners closely with internal cross functional teams to ensure that strategic initiatives are driven by robust, actionable insights and scalable reporting frameworks. The ideal candidate combines leadership, business strategy, technical expertise, and stakeholder management to transform complex data, primarily sourced through Scintilla, into actionable insights that improve performance, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
Essential Tasks, Duties, & Responsibilities
- Own and manage Walmart Scintilla data assets end to end, including category segmentation, data governance, reporting accuracy, and performance analysis for 30,000+ SKUs.
- Develop and deliver weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual business performance reporting sourced from Scintilla that provides clear visibility into key drivers, risks, opportunities, and overall business trends to support strategic decision making.
- Support the Walmart team by analyzing large, complex datasets to uncover actionable insights, identify emerging trends, assess business risks, and recommend growth opportunities.
- Provide data driven analysis and strategic insights to support the development, execution, and optimization of business initiatives and go to market strategies.
- Lead analytic initiatives by transforming complex data into actionable recommendations that drive business performance and influence strategic direction.
- Establish and promote best practices for deep dive analytics, dashboard design, KPI measurement, and scalable reporting frameworks built primarily on Scintilla data.
- Drive execution of business priorities by aligning cross functional objectives, monitoring performance metrics, and adapting strategies to evolving business needs.
- Increase visibility into business performance against Walmart KPIs, scorecards, and benchmarks, enabling cross functional teams to prioritize actions and improve business outcomes.
- Communicate insights, trends, and strategic recommendations effectively to leadership through concise, impactful storytelling and data visualization.
- Conduct detailed analysis of category performance, competitive landscape, brand share, pricing architecture, SKU productivity, assortment optimization, consumer trends, and whitespace opportunities to drive category growth strategies.
- Manage item creation and ongoing maintenance for portfolio products, including development and optimization of initial eCommerce product page content.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on Scintilla, staying current on platform updates, tier features (Basic versus Charter), and new reporting capabilities, and training cross functional partners on effective platform use as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed and directed by management.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 7+ years of analytical experience within the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry, supporting the Walmart business.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Hands on experience working with Walmart Scintilla data required, including category, shopper, and performance analytics; familiarity with Retail Link and Supplier One is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, with expert level Excel skills including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, Pivot Tables, advanced conditional formatting, dashboard reporting, macros, VBA, and data modeling/simulation techniques.
- Strong knowledge of syndicated and retailer data sources, including POS, loyalty/card, panel, and demographic datasets, with experience leveraging platforms such as Scintilla, NielsenIQ, Circana (IRI), NPD, Numerator, and Spectra to drive actionable business insights.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear, high impact insights that inform strategic planning and business decision making.
- Strong strategic problem solver with the ability to independently source, interpret, and synthesize data, build insights from the ground up, and influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
- Advanced hands-on data analysis skills, including the ability to independently extract, structure, and analyze large and complex datasets, primarily within Scintilla.
- Hands on proficiency with Scintilla (formerly Walmart Luminate), including navigating Channel Performance, Shopper Behavior, and Customer Perception modules, and working knowledge of how Scintilla connects to Retail Link and Supplier One within Walmart's supplier ecosystem.
- Proven experience developing insights from raw data and delivering concise, actionable recommendations that drive business outcomes.
- Comfortable operating in fast paced, evolving environments with the ability to establish structure, frameworks, and clarity where needed.
- Experience working in SKU intensive or highly complex product environments with large assortments and dynamic category performance drivers.
- Ability to lead through influence by building trust, fostering alignment across cross functional teams, and driving decision making through clear communication, storytelling, and data driven narratives without direct authority.
