We believe aircraft should fly themselves.
The Role
Leads electrical and avionics NPI from prototype through production. Designs build and integration processes, conducts DFX and DFT reviews, establishes manufacturing, inspection, quality, and validation systems, manages suppliers, troubleshoots issues, performs root-cause analysis, and ensures safety, reliability, compliance, cost, and schedule objectives. The role also mentors teams and serves as the electrical and avionics technical authority.
Summary Generated by Built In

We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a Sr. Electrical New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you’ll play a critical role in developing and continuously improving all aspects of our supply chain, manufacturing, and installation processes to meet design, regulatory, and business requirements (including safety, quality, cost, and on-time delivery). This is a growing team of highly motivated people passionate about delivering quality products and services on time, with unquestionable value. You will be responsible for designing the build and integration process for electrical and avionics products (including harnessing and hardware-in-the-loop test equipment), conducting design for excellence (DFX) reviews, and developing the processes and infrastructure to help the business scale. You will serve as the electrical/avionics technical authority and advisor for all NPI activities. You will define and evolve best-in-class NPI processes, mentor engineers and cross-functional teams, and ensure that new products are designed for manufacturability, reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The projects you work on will set the foundation for how the business operates for years to come. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a safety-critical environment that takes automated aviation systems from prototype to production in a hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, integrate, test, diagnose, inspect, and maintain Reliable-designed electrical or avionics assemblies, specializing in printed circuit boards (PCB), printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test equipment, electro-mechanical assemblies, and other commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products.

  • Source, qualify, and troubleshoot all electrical or avionics products, conduct design for excellence (DFX) reviews, and develop the processes and infrastructure to help the business scale

  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality, and certification teams to embed producibility/manufacturability, compliance, and risk mitigation in all phases of product development (e.g., prototype, research and development, certification, and production).

  • Lead the creation, refinement, and enforcement of world-class NPI frameworks and technical review methodologies.

  • Represent the production organization in all design reviews, release designs, and partner with engineering to evaluate designs for cost, producibility, inspectability, consistency, adequacy, accuracy, and conformance to requirements.

  • Assures product and process quality by conducting design for test (DFT) reviews, testing finished-product and process capabilities, establishing standards, and developing manufacturing processes.

  • Establish and maintain rigorous technical readiness criteria, risk assessments (e.g., DFMEA, PFMEA), and validation strategies for new products.

  • Develop quality control plans and inspection infrastructure.

  • Develop and manage supplier relationships to ensure they meet or exceed requirements for manufacturing, testing, inspection, quality, performance, and reliability.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement timely corrective actions to maintain schedule, quality, and reliability

Basic Success Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or systems engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in new production introduction (NPI) of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), including design, supply chain management, manufacturing, inspection, and/or testing experience

  • 5+ years of experience conducting design for excellence (DFx) reviews to evaluate electrical or avionics (e.g., PCB, PCBA, electro-mechanical assemblies) designs for cost, producibility, inspectability, consistency, adequacy, accuracy, and conformance to requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with manufacturing, processing, and materials knowledge within a safety-critical environment

  • 2+ years of experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and product lifecycle management (PLM) software, such as Altium, NX, and Teamcenter

Preferred Criteria

  • Experience with industry or regulatory requirements such as AS9100, CFR 14 CFR 21.137, and/or 14 CFR Part 145

  • Prior experience in troubleshooting, repairing, setting up, and operating complex hardware in a safety-critical environment
