Overview
Pulse is tackling one of the most persistent challenges in data infrastructure: extracting accurate, structured information from complex documents at scale. We have a breakthrough approach to document understanding that combines intelligent schema mapping with fine-tuned extraction models where legacy OCR and other parsing tools consistently fail.
We are a small, fast-growing team of engineers in San Francisco powering Fortune 100 enterprises, YC startups, public investment firms, and growth-stage companies. We are backed by tier 1 investors and growing quickly.
What makes our tech special is our multi-stage architecture:
Layout understanding with specialized component detection models
Low-latency OCR models for targeted extraction
Advanced reading-order algorithms for complex structures
Proprietary table structure recognition and parsing
Fine-tuned vision-language models for charts, tables, and figures
If you are passionate about the intersection of computer vision, NLP, and data infrastructure, your work at Pulse will directly impact customers and shape the future of document intelligence.
What we are looking for
5 days in-office at our San Francisco office
Eager to learn and adapt quickly
Prior startup or founding experience is a plus
About the Role
As a Solutions Engineer at Pulse, you will partner with Account Executives and prospects to translate complex document-understanding challenges into technical solutions that win and retain business. You will lead solution discovery and design, run technical evaluations and proofs-of-concept, and architect deployments before handing off to implementation teams. This role sits at the intersection of pre-sales, solution architecture, and core engineering.
Responsibilities
Partner with sales to lead technical discovery, qualify opportunities, and map customer requirements to Pulse capabilities using value-based and solution-selling methodology
Design end-to-end solutions that account for the customer's current systems, data flows, and existing infrastructure, identifying integration points and constraints early
Create architecture diagrams and solution designs that support the buying decision and guide implementation
Lead proofs-of-concept and technical evaluations, defining success criteria and tying outcomes to business value (accuracy gains, cost and time savings, risk reduction)
Apply pre-sales consulting best practices to build trust with technical and business stakeholders, including objection handling and tailored technical demos
Own a clean handoff to implementation and deployment teams with documented solution design, architecture, and success criteria
Serve as the technical voice of the customer back to product and engineering, surfacing patterns across deals
Requirements
3+ years in a customer-facing technical role such as solutions or sales engineering, pre-sales, solution architecture, or technical consulting, ideally selling technical or data infrastructure products
Proven ability to lead technical discovery and map customer requirements to product capabilities using value-based and solution-selling methodology
Comfort designing end-to-end solutions and creating architecture diagrams that account for a customer's existing systems, data flows, and infrastructure
Experience running proofs-of-concept and technical evaluations, including defining success criteria and tying outcomes to measurable business value
Strong working knowledge of APIs, integrations, and modern cloud and data infrastructure, enough to architect credible solutions and speak fluently with technical stakeholders
Proficiency in Python or a similar language for prototyping, demos, and technical validation
Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with both technical and business buyers and to handle objections with confidence
Bias toward ownership and a track record of partnering closely with Account Executives to move deals forward
Nice to have
Familiarity with document processing, OCR, NLP, computer vision, or ML platforms
Experience selling into regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, insurance, or legal
Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Background in data infrastructure or enterprise SaaS
Sponsorship
Sponsorship available.
Compensation and benefits
Competitive base salary plus equity, performance-based bonus, relocation assistance for Bay Area moves, daily meal stipend, medical, vision, and dental coverage.
