SME SOLUTION ARCHITECT
Support mission-critical initiatives and enable the growth of our business as a Solution Architect at GDIT. Here, you’ll become an integral part of how GDIT is able to ensure the safety and security of our nation.
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a Solution Architect, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of Federal Financial Agencies. You will play a crucial role and conduct continuous operational analysis of our client’s business processes, leverage the knowledge with your technical expertise in architectural design and applications functionality and provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for the transition of mission-critical financial applications from IBM Mainframe platforms to modern, cloud-enabled, and server-based architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Become a trusted Subject Matter Expert by reviewing client’s current mainframe, Mid-range system architecture, including interfaces, data models, and batch processing frameworks to understand current state business processes.

  • Propose future state business processes and architectural solutions featuring industry best practices and technical design by operating efficiently and effectively in an multifaceted organization environment

  • Lead the implementation of modern technical solutions by supporting design and solutioning activities with the client’s financial agent and enhance user experience by utilizing advanced mapping tools and software architectural analysis methods.

  • Collaborate with client’s financial agent to develop efficient and effective business workstreams and provide technical drawings providing detailed design and generating proof-of-concept solutions for adoption.

  • Communicate and articulate requirements to financial agent oversight and development teams that will draft agile stories to implement adopted design decisions.

  • Work with partner organizations and multiple development teams to ensure technical workflow solutions align with federal financial, security, and compliance requirements.

  • Utilize expertise of process mapping workflow software such as MicroSoft Visio or other industry standard tools to effectively map and present business workflows.

  • Develop strategies for migrating legacy mainframe applications (COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM) to modern server and cloud environments.

  • Provide architecture-level recommendations for integration, performance optimization, and data migrations.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, while contributing to modernization of roadmaps and data migration plans.

  • Lead development teams in applying modern design patterns, cloud-native principles, and DevSecOps practices.

  • Support testing, validation, and deployment of new and reengineered applications across environments.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your initiative and drive for innovation to GDIT. The Senior Solution Architect position requires expertise in mapping clients’ business processes and technical architecture using industry standard tools common to senior business analysts and information technology systems architects. 

  • Candidates must demonstrate experience applying these tools to design cloud-based solutions involving complex applications, databases, and interfaces. 

  • Candidates should have a proven track record in developing modernization strategies for hybrid environments that combine mainframes with custom applications from multiple vendors. 

  • Candidates be able to relate their mapping experience and tools used during the interview process and should be able to demonstrate their skills and experience in this area. 

  • The ideal candidate will analyze client operations and propose strategies that move away from mainframe systems, offering front-end and back-end solutions that align with GDIT’s goals of improving efficiency and strengthening trust with financial partners. 

Success in this role includes contributing to winning proposals and implementing cloud-based solutions leveraging modern technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Required Experience:

  • 10 years of experience in enterprise application architecture, systems design, and implementation.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Familiar with Mainframe technologies, including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM.

  • Proven experience with modern web/server technologies, including: Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Postgres, Tomcat/WebLogic, and Linux.

  • Hands-on experience with modernization or migration of legacy mainframe applications to distributed or cloud-based systems.

  • Strong understanding of system integration, data migration, and application interoperability between legacy and modern platforms.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting federal financial systems.

  • Expertise with financial application architectures (e.g., general ledger, disbursement, or reconciliation systems) that support disbursement operations.

  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevSecOps pipelines.

  • Familiarity with federal IT frameworks, including FISMA, NIST 800-53, and FedRAMP.

The likely salary range for this position is $171,507 - $232,039. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
