Motivation and Fulfillment

NanoQT has been rooted in R&D from the beginning, and our staff is deeply technical. We are results-driven and offer a high degree of autonomy and flexibility. You'll be helping to build a system that is the first of its kind, right at the edge of quantum computing. If you're looking for a chance to learn and grow in a relatively new industry, this is a great place to be.

Background of Recruitment

Almost everyone on our team has basic software skills.

As we continue to grow, internal systems have become increasingly complex. In response, we're creating a dedicated software engineering team to support the R&D teams here at NanoQT.

The ability to communicate directly with researchers and engineers is critical. At NanoQT, almost everyone has a deeply technical understanding of the system. In fact, you'll often be talking to the person who invented it!

We're looking for someone who can continue to help our team refine and extend existing systems while continuously improving UI/UX and maintainability.

Job Description

You will work closely with physicists and engineers to...

  • Understand existing systems: You're not afraid to admit when you don't understand something or to ask for clarification. Our team is here to support you and provide adequate explanations, but you have to be proactive and willing to ask.

  • Design & develop new systems: This is a collaborative process. You bring your own perspective and experience into the room. You don't just learn; you also share your software knowledge with your collaborators.

  • Maintain existing systems: You own your code and are able to help others. Your software is well-architected and extensible. You can add or modify features over time to continuously improve the user experience.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Fluency in Python and C++

  • Experience building and updating GUIs based on user feedback.

  • Experience working with microcontrollers: Arduino, etc.

  • Experience with control systems.

  • Understanding of RPC and REST.

  • Understanding of signal analysis.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • R&D experience.

  • Experience with gathering and acting on user feedback.

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization.

  • Understanding of optics or quantum mechanics.

Language Proficiency Level
  • English: business-level fluency, including technical concepts.

  • Japanese: casual conversational ability.

Desired Personal Qualities

Your applications need to be simple and intuitive to use. You care about the user experience, not just the technical aspects.

You deliver simple UI/UX and long-term maintainability. You can use AI agents, but you understand and own what you ship. Your applications are simple, easy to use, and require minimal initial setup.

You make decisions for the long term and do not rush to complete tasks. You prioritize doing things right over doing them fast.

  • Fluency in Python and C++
  • Experience building and updating GUIs based on user feedback
  • Experience working with microcontrollers such as Arduino
  • Experience with control systems
  • Understanding of RPC and REST
  • Understanding of signal analysis
