Purpose Statement:
Develops manufacturing/test equipment and software used in the development and production of medical devices. Under limited supervisions or as member of a team: directs, develops, concepts and executes specifications, designs, plans and builds of moderately complex manufacturing and test equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Designs and develops software programs for all new equipment and update software for existing equipment where necessary.
- Proven track record in the operation of all electronic controlled manufacturing equipment. Be familiar with all software programs running the above systems.
- Become an expert in each of these systems and ensure all necessary hardware and software is on site to support same. Ensure that these systems are maintained and validated as per BSIL procedures for hardware and software validation.
- Familiar with all aspects of software validations and 21 CFR Part 11Issues for electronic records and signatures.
- Provide full support to the Equipment Engineering group from an electronics, control, computer perspective and will be responsible for design and implementation of control systems on new equipment/machines.
- Provide support to the manufacturing teams where necessary by way of involvement in trouble shooting in the event of a downtime problem or in continuous improvement programs (CIP). Provide necessary training on the aforementioned systems to technicians and engineers and provide advice to equipment builders/assemblers on control/wiring issues.
- Procures standard electrical/software components.
- Evaluates in conjunction with EHS new equipment/processes/chemicals for environmental impact/effect to eliminate or lessen such impacts/effects.
- Be familiar with the Electrical safety standards and CE marking standards as they apply to equipment.
- Develop machine control software and integrate this software with controllers, motion controllers, vision systems, and other instrumentation.
- Prepare software design specifications and associated documentation for equipment and systems.
- Provide software support to the Equipment Design, Maintenance, and Manufacturing groups.
- Design database and SCADA systems and be able to interface these systems with machine controllers.
- Take ownership of existing PC/Database/SCADA systems on site, become an expert in these systems, and initiate value improvement projects
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of automation systems, including PC/PLC-based controls, motion control, and vision systems.
- Programming skills in VB.NET and/or C#.
- Experience with SQL databases and software troubleshooting/debugging.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley (AB) PLCs and Aerotech motion control systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to support automation and manufacturing applications.
