Senior Software Engineer

About the Role 

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, and evolve the technology platform supporting our agricultural carbon programs. 

This is a hands-on engineering position with significant technical ownership. You will develop solutions across our full technology stack, including React applications, TypeScript/Node.js services, databases, and AWS infrastructure. 

Working closely with Product Management, the Senior Engineering Manager, and cross-functional teams, you will translate complex business and scientific requirements into reliable, maintainable software. 

The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity, making sound technical decisions, and taking ownership of solutions from initial discovery through production support. You will also contribute to engineering standards, architectural decisions, and the technical growth of the team.  This is Job a Full-time position (CLT contract) and candidate should be based in Brazil. 

Key Responsibilities 

Software Design & Development 

• Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications using TypeScript, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL. 
• Build and maintain APIs, independently deployed services, and integrations with internal and external systems. 
• Translate business requirements and technical challenges into practical, scalable solutions. 
• Contribute to software architecture, service design, and technical decision-making. 
• Develop reusable components and shared libraries that improve engineering efficiency and consistency. 
• Platform Reliability & Engineering Excellence 
• Improve application performance, reliability, scalability, security, and observability. 
• Build and maintain cloud-based solutions and infrastructure within AWS. 
• Support automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment processes. 
• Participate in production troubleshooting, incident response, root cause analysis, and preventive improvements. 
• Apply engineering best practices through code reviews, documentation, and automated quality controls. 

Collaboration & Technical Leadership 

• Partner with Product Management and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and define appropriate solutions. 
• Collaborate with engineering, data, analytics, and scientific teams to support integrated business processes. 
• Work with the Senior Engineering Manager to evaluate technical approaches and identify opportunities for platform improvement. 
• Mentor other engineers through technical guidance, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing. 
• Communicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

Required Qualifications 

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and supporting production applications. 
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, including API development using NestJS, Express, Fastify, or comparable frameworks. 
• Strong experience with React, including hooks, component architecture, state management, and application performance. 
• Experience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases, including schema design, migrations, indexing, and query optimization. 
• Hands-on experience developing and operating applications in AWS environments, including relevant services such as ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch. 
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar tools. 
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based development workflows. 
• Experience implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using frameworks such as Vitest, Testcontainers, Cypress, or comparable tools. 
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including asynchronous communication, retries, idempotency, and failure handling. 
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver solutions in an evolving business environment. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience developing Python-based services, APIs, or automation tools. 
• Experience with geospatial technologies such as PostGIS, GeoJSON, or web mapping libraries. 
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture, Kafka, or comparable messaging technologies. 
• Experience with structured logging, monitoring, error tracking, and feature management. 
• Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and sensitive data protection. 
• Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools responsibly. 
• Experience in agriculture, climate technology, carbon markets, environmental science, or other data-intensive industries.
