Overview

The Senior Product Engineer leads complex product development activities for lithium-ion battery modules and packs used in commercial, industrial, and automotive applications. This role leads product-level technical workstreams, develops and refines product requirements and interfaces, drives complex integration and validation activities, and makes higher-level technical decisions within assigned products or programs. The engineer provides technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, systems, thermal, manufacturing, quality, test, supplier, and program teams while delivering robust products that meet technical and business objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex battery-pack product development activities from concept through production and launch.
  • Develop and refine product requirements, specifications, interfaces, and technical acceptance criteria from system and customer needs.
  • Develop and influence product architecture and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, thermal, structural, and packaging interfaces.
  • Lead complex product integration activities and make product-level technical decisions within assigned programs.
  • Lead major design reviews, technical reviews, and issue-resolution activities across engineering functions.
  • Lead prototype builds, design verification, validation, and simulation-to-test correlation for complex products.
  • Drive root-cause investigations for complex test, field, manufacturing, supplier, and reliability issues and ensure effective corrective actions.
  • Lead product-level tradeoffs involving performance, cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, timing, and technical risk.
  • Lead complex engineering changes through impact analysis, review, validation, and release.
  • Lead supplier technical resolution for critical or complex components and interfaces.
  • Develop and improve product architecture, layouts, BOMs, specifications, design standards, and engineering documentation.
  • Drive technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and closure across product development workstreams.
  • Present technical recommendations, risks, decisions, and product status to engineering and cross-functional leadership.
  • Develop engineering methods, standards, and processes that improve product development effectiveness and product performance.
  • Mentor Mechanical Engineer I/II and Product Engineer I/II team members and provide technical leadership across engineering workstreams.
Qualifications

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 7–10 years of relevant product development or engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience developing complex electro-mechanical products from concept through production.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, thermal, structural, and systems-level engineering principles.
  • Experience developing product requirements, architecture, interfaces, validation strategies, and technical specifications.
  • Experience leading complex product integration, testing, root-cause analysis, and technical problem resolution.
  • Strong engineering judgment and ability to make decisions across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Strong technical communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Ability to independently lead complex engineering workstreams with limited oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with battery packs, electric vehicles, energy storage systems, or other complex electro-mechanical products.
  • Experience with high-voltage battery systems and associated mechanical, electrical, thermal, safety, and reliability requirements.
  • Experience with product architecture, DFMEA, DVPR, configuration management, and phase-gate development.
  • Experience with FEA, thermal, vibration, shock, electrical, or other engineering analysis methods.
  • Experience with preparing documentation for compliance and certification including ISO 26262,ISO 15288, INCOSE, UL9540, and UL1973.
  • Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFMA, and serviceability.
  • Experience leading supplier development and qualification of critical components.
  • Familiarity with automotive, industrial, or commercial product development standards.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, Excel, or other engineering data analysis tools.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical programs or major product workstreams.
