Senior PDBI Insurance Consultant / Analyst
Location: Fully Remote
Type: Part-Time / Contract (Freelance Retainer)
Compensation: Fixed Weekly or Monthly Fee (Negotiable based on experience)
About Us & The Role
We are a well-funded, highly innovative, and frankly contrarian startup fundamentally rethinking risk-based decision making in insurance. Our approach to analyzing and buying insurance is risk and data-driven. To support our mission, we are bringing on a deeply experienced Property Damage and Business Interruption (PDBI) specialist to help with research and validation.
The Work: Expect heavy research, deep reading of complex policy wordings, and drafting detailed, descriptive memos. This is heads-down, technical analysis - getting deep into the weeds of PDBI methodology and policy mechanics. There is no client hand-holding or flashy presentation work here; just pure, rigorous risk analysis.
The Upside: We offer total flexibility. This is a fully remote, highly autonomous, part-time engagement. It is an ideal fit for an industry veteran - an underwriter, actuary, or in-house insurance manager - who wants to apply their deep insider knowledge to an ambitious project on their own schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- PDBI Market Research: Continuously monitor and research on PDBI capacity, pricing dynamics, and shifting market appetites.
- Underwriting & Placement Strategy: Deconstruct how carriers are currently underwriting complex PDBI risks, evaluating standard exclusions, and identifying optimal placement structures.
- Technical Drafting: Read extensive methodology and policy documents and draft clear, highly descriptive internal memos, risk presentations, and placement strategy guides.
- Friction & Gap Analysis: Research and document systemic industry issues related to PDBI coverage disputes, specifically analyzing the root causes of why PDBI losses are contested, delayed, or left unpaid by carriers.
Who We Are Looking For
- Deep Industry Experience: This role is strictly for seasoned professionals. We give heavy preference to those who have worked extensively within the insurance industry and intimately understand its mechanics, flaws, and unwritten rules.
- PDBI Specialization: Your expertise must be heavily concentrated in Property Damage and Business Interruption.
- Research & Writing Prowess: You must actually enjoy the rigorous work of reading complex policy wordings and translating that research into well-structured, analytical memos.
- Autonomous Execution: You thrive in a flexible, remote environment and can deliver high-quality analytical work on a set retainer basis without micromanagement.
How to Apply
Please submit a custom 1-2 page proposal rather than a standard cover letter. Your document must include:
- A focused overview of your specific, hands-on experience with PDBI placement, pricing, underwriting, and coverage disputes.
- Your proposed fee structure (please state your required set weekly or monthly fee for this remote, part-time work).
- A brief summary of your current availability and how you prefer to structure freelance work.
Skills Required
- Extensive hands-on experience with Property Damage and Business Interruption (PDBI) insurance
- Demonstrated experience in PDBI placement, pricing, underwriting, and coverage dispute analysis
- Strong research skills and ability to read complex policy wordings and draft clear analytical memos
- Proven ability to work autonomously in a remote, part-time consulting/retainer arrangement
- Background as an underwriter, actuary, or in-house insurance manager (preferred)
