Senior Mechanical Project Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team in our Irvine office.     

The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer leverages extensive experience in the design of complex buildings to lead all phases of project design and construction. This role oversees project delivery, coordinates across disciplines, manages responsibilities across multiple complex projects, and ensures adherence to design intent, codes, and quality standards. The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer identifies potential risks or liability concerns in coordination with the Discipline Director and contributes to project planning efforts, including estimating hours for specific tasks and overall project scope. This position also provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff and project engineers.

Essential Functions:

This role provides expert leadership in:

• Documentation: Guiding the modeling and drawings used to accurately deliver projects, reviews key project decisions with Discipline leadership
• Building Technology: Applying an understanding of construction methods to building design
• Project Delivery: Progressing project work from schematic design through construction documentation, ensuring design and production efforts are completed within the project schedule and budget 
• Codes: Ensuring project designs and construction documents fully comply with applicable codes
• Quality Standards: Promoting project quality through adherence to and the ongoing improvement of the company standards
• Sustainability: Conceiving projects with rigor to resolve energy and environmental impacts and meet sustainability goals
• Equipment Selection and Research: Selecting equipment and identifying appropriate applications that consider system performance, lifecycle, and project requirement
• Construction Administration: Managing the construction phase through responsive coordination with the builder to maintain design intent and contractual requirements, including field reviews, investigations, submittals, and oversight of mechanical system installation
• Calculations: Determining and applying calculation and analysis models to evaluate engineering conditions and guide project design decisions
• Cost Consciousness: Analyzing construction cost estimates for alignment of design intent and approved budgets and develops alternatives for controlling project costs
• Design Communication: Communicating engineering design intent, technical decisions, and system impacts effectively to clients, consultants, and project teams.
• Specification Writing: Defining the design intent for material qualitative requirements and performance standards to ensure contractually enforceable and accurate representation of the mechanical system design

Demonstrates advanced skills in:

• Software: Understanding the software analysis to ensure accuracy in the design and modeling of mechanical systems
• Design Generation: Initiating the design approach to distinctive solutions which consider the totality of a project
• Planning: Developing effective spatial configuration options through analysis of adjacencies, phasing and expansion
• Profitability: Effectively managing fees, resources, and the project delivery schedule to ensure the financial health of a project, including management of discipline staff assignments, budgets, and workload across multiple projects

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Architectural Engineering
• Registered PE in at least one state with suitable credentials for registration in other states
• 10+ years of experience
• EwingCole currently utilizes Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and the Microsoft Suite software to deliver projects
• Experience in engineering calculation software and equipment selection programs
• Engineering experience in one or more of EwingCole's project market sectors, Healthcare design experience preferred
