New York · Full-time, permanent · Reports to Willem Jongert, CEO
A lawyer embedded in Alaro's legal team. Take the workflow, execute it to top-firm standard, and codify it so the agents take it from you.
01 About AlaroAlaro is the AI operating partner for business-critical work, starting with legal. We turn recurring, document-heavy processes into reliable AI-enabled operations - scoped by legal experts, managed as an extension of the team, and improved with every matter.
Founded in 2025 by Willem (ex-Paul Hastings PE, Cambridge) and Igor (ex-Monzo ML, Cambridge). Backed by tier-one VCs. Work monitored by our licensed attorneys. Fixed fee. No retainers. We have processed $5bn of legal work to date, with anchor clients including a £2.4bn London real estate developer, an elite US law firm, and international banks. The US entity is live in New York. The US market is next.
02 The roleLegal execution capacity is the bottleneck on Alaro's growth, and this seat removes it. You sit inside Alaro's legal team. When a client sends a new workflow - a matter type, a document set, a recurring process - you pick it up, execute the legal work to the standard of the firm you trained at, and in parallel you codify it: a steps plan precise enough that our agents take the work over and you never have to do it manually again.
The benchmark mindset on the team is simple. The first question our best lawyers ask when handed new work is "how do I create a steps plan so I don't have to do it?" You do the work and you automate yourself out of it, workflow by workflow, then move to the next one. Quality never drops while you do. Clients get top-firm output from day one, whether it came from you or the agents you trained.
What this role is not: it is not a GTM seat, not a client-implementation seat, and not a product-onboarding seat. The relationship is owned by GTM. The work is owned by you.
We are hiring a practising lawyer with an automation obsession, not a legal technologist who stopped practising. If your instinct on receiving new work is to build the machine that does it, keep reading.
03 What you'll ownExecution of client legal work, end to end, at the standard of a top-tier firm - from day one, unsupervised
The steps plan: codifying every workflow you touch into a process precise enough for the agents to take over
Scoping and mapping new workflows from the historical documents clients send - what the work is, how it is judged, where the edge cases live
Quality monitoring of agent output on workflows you have codified. Your name stays on the standard
The feedback loop to engineering: what the agents get wrong, what the steps plan missed, what to build next
Trained and qualified at a top-tier firm - Paul Hastings, Kirkland & Ellis, Allen & Overy, a Magic Circle firm, or an elite US firm of the Skadden tier. The kind of training where sloppy work gets spotted instinctively
Roughly 3-8 years' PQE, or junior-to-mid-level associate in US terms. Experienced enough to know what good client output looks like, early enough to be driven by automation rather than by traditional career milestones
Transactional background preferred over litigation. A preference, not a hard requirement
Able to pick up unfamiliar work and codify it quickly. Handed a matter type you have never run, you work out how it is judged and turn it into a repeatable process
Process-obsessed and automation-driven. Your instinct on any recurring task is the steps plan, not the grind
Commercially pragmatic. You understand what the client is paying for and calibrate the output to that, without being asked
Comfortable doing the work manually while you build the automation. Quality holds in both modes
OUTPUT, NOT HOURS We measure work by the matter closed, not the time recorded. No timesheets, no billable targets, no incentive to be slow.
RIGOUR WITH SPEED Speed is expected; quality is non-negotiable. AI does the heavy lifting so the judgment work gets the attention it deserves.
AUTOMATE YOURSELF FORWARD The best work you do here is work nobody has to do again. Every workflow you codify compounds - for you, the team, and the client.
BUILD THE FIRM WITH US You shape playbooks, tooling, hiring and direction. The work you do now sets the standard the next ten lawyers operate to.
