The Role

Envitia is looking for a Java Engineer to join our growing Security & Intelligence team.

The role is pivotal to the Engineering function and will be responsible for leading the design, development and implementation of complex software solutions for customers in the  government and national security sectors. 

This position requires an individual who can operate independently, drive projects to completion and deliver innovative solutions that align with project objectives and organisational goals. The Senior Software Engineer will provide technical leadership, mentor less experienced engineers and ensure the delivery of high-quality software that fulfils the expectations of customers. 

This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll have direct influence over solution design, engineering decisions and the delivery of modern software systems.

Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a high level of security clearance. Once cleared, you will be expected to work on-site at client locations in either London, Cheltenham, or Manchester for approximately 3-4 days per week. Whilst you clearance is going through, you will work on programmes across our wider defence and central government portfolio.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the planning, design, and development of sophisticated software applications. Make critical decisions that define a framework for implementing projects and initiatives.
• Design, write and test code, refining and rewriting it as necessary, supporting and collaborating with other developers involved in the project.
• Oversee the delivery of projects from conception to deployment, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet or exceed quality standards.
• Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and software development practices. Tackle complex problems and provide well-engineered solutions.
• Establish and enforce quality assurance standards and best practices to ensure the development and delivery of reliable and scalable software.
• Conduct code reviews and maintain high standards in programming to improve application functionality and prevent future issues.
• Mentor and guide junior software engineers, promoting a culture of learning and growth within the team. Share knowledge and foster a collaborative team environment.
• Collaborate with other departments, gathering and addressing technical and design requirements. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates and gather feedback on project progress. Capable of breaking down customer requirements into an actionable user experience design.
  

What We're Looking For

• Highly proficient Java programmer, experience building RESTful microservices with Spring 
• User Interface development experience using Angular and knowledge of other JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue.js and native js desirable 
• Adaptable, ability to pick up new technologies and learn quickly 
• Design, write and test code, refining and rewriting it as necessary, supporting and collaborating with other developers involved in the project 
• Capable of breaking down customer requirements into an actionable software design 
• Experienced with working with backend teams to define and utilise appropriate service APIs 
• DevOps, Docker and CI/CD pipelines 
• Experience of Azure / AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure 
• Agile development methodology and use of TDD and BDD

Security Clearance Requirements

The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a high level of security clearance. Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be a sole British National.

Location

The role will require the successful candidate to be onsite 3-4 days a week with a customer in either London, Cheltenham or Manchester 3-4 days a week once you obtain your clearance.
