About the role
Are you a systems-minded engineer with deep cloud infrastructure expertise and a passion for building the platforms that power products at scale? Do you enjoy solving hard distributed-systems problems, driving reliability, and partnering closely with engineering teams to architect for growth? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to drive the design, development, and evolution of the systems that keep Fingerprint running fast, securely, and at scale. This is a foundational role on our Infrastructure team, with broad ownership over the systems, tools, and practices that power our engineering organization and customer-facing products.
You'll work across cloud architecture, deployment systems, observability, performance tuning, and developer tooling—helping to define and deliver our platform's reliability and scalability strategy. As a technical leader, you'll also collaborate closely with product engineering, security, and DevOps to ensure our infrastructure is ready for the next phase of growth.
Responsibilities:
- Own a core infrastructure product or subsystem end to end — you design it, ship it, operate it, and are accountable for how it behaves in production.
- Define project goals and success metrics for your work, aligning them with company objectives, and proactively identify and address risks before they become blockers.
- Create technical designs from PRDs and requirements, taking an iterative approach that addresses critical corner cases without over-engineering.
- Build secure, high-performing, resilient, and cost-efficient infrastructure for a broad range of applications and workloads.
- Design, write, and ship software and developer-facing tooling that improves the day-to-day lives of our engineers and reduces toil.
- Manage infrastructure through code and configuration (we primarily use Terraform), consistently applying patterns that align with our overall service architecture.
- Partner with product engineering teams to architect their services for scale, resolving ambiguous requirements directly with stakeholders.
- Participate in incident response and use systematic debugging to diagnose issues within your domain and across services.
- Help tune and evolve monitoring for the team, and use operational data as the basis for proposing stability and performance improvements.
- Approach all engineering work with a security lens — actively looking for vulnerabilities in your own work and in peer reviews.
- Act as the go-to person for hard problems in your area, and mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and design feedback so knowledge doesn't silo.
- Drive cross-team collaboration and engage stakeholders outside of engineering, facilitating discussions on technical and process topics.
Qualifications:
- 6–10 years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or backend engineering within primarily cloud-based environments (AWS preferred).
- A track record of owning a product or subsystem end to end — you've designed something significant, shipped it, operated it, and lived with the consequences.
- T-shaped expertise: deep specialization in one or two areas, with enough breadth to navigate and contribute across the wider system with minimal guidance.
- Strong hands-on experience managing infrastructure through code and configuration (Terraform or equivalent).
- Depth in cloud infrastructure fundamentals: networking, load balancing, containerization (EKS/Kubernetes), and distributed systems.
- Solid programming skills in Go, Python, or a comparable language — you write real, production-ready software.
- Hands-on experience operating Redis/ElastiCache in production — including cluster/shard management, failover behavior, memory eviction policies, and scaling strategies. This is a current skill gap on our team, so depth here is a strong differentiator.
- Comfort with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar), performance tuning, and incident management.
- Fluency with software engineering best practices: source control, code review, comprehensive test coverage across edge cases and errors, and safe deployment.
- A high level of personal ownership and autonomy, with real experience working without clearly defined requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English — clear technical design docs, PR reviews, and updates that bring engineers outside your team along on a decision.
