The Machine is the agentic operating system for marketing, built by Code & Theory. It plugs into the tools marketing teams use and turns disconnected workflows into a single intelligent system, connecting brand strategy, creative production, and media performance. The Machine helps power agencies across Stagwell's network and world-leading brands.
We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to own the infrastructure, tooling, and developer experience powering our AI-native digital platforms. You'll work across cloud, CI/CD, security, and observability — partnering with cross functional teams to ship faster and build more reliably.
Our engineers are AI native and engage in and advance the state of the art in the practice of software development flow with AI.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS, GCP, and Azure with a focus on high availability and operational excellence
- Build and evolve CI/CD pipelines for fast, safe software delivery — from commit to production
- Embed DevSecOps principles across the pipeline: security scanning, secrets management, and compliance by default
- Lead IaC practices with Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible — keeping environments reproducible and auditable
- Own observability: monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing across all systems
- Drive cloud cost optimization, identifying inefficiencies and right-sizing resources proactively
- Partner with engineering teams to improve developer experience and remove friction from the SDLC
- Maintain architecture documentation, runbooks, and post-mortems to support a culture of continuous improvement
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Extensive experience provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, and/or Azure
- Strong proficiency with IaC tools — Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Ansible
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, or Jenkins
- Deep expertise with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience designing high-availability, fault-tolerant architectures
- Solid understanding of deployment strategies: blue-green, canary releases, and feature flags
- Experience with serverless architectures — AWS Lambda, GCP Cloud Functions, or Azure Functions
- Familiarity with edge platforms and CDNs such as Fastly and AWS CloudFront
- Experience with developer platforms such as Vercel, Netlify, and WP Engine
- Deep understanding of security best practices and hands-on DevSecOps experience
- Experience with Snyk, SonarQube, AWS Secrets Manager, and HashiCorp Vault
- Experience with observability platforms — New Relic, Datadog, or AWS CloudWatch
- Solid Linux administration and experience configuring NGINX, Traefik, and load balancers
- Proficiency scripting in bash and Python for automation and internal tooling
- Deep understanding of networking, cloud architectures, and web application design
- Experience with Git and managed platforms such as GitHub, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps
- Experience implementing cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices
- Strong communication skills — able to discuss complex technical topics and author clear documentation
- Comfortable leveraging AI-enabled development tools and workflows to accelerate engineering, automation, debugging, and operational tasks
- Experience orchestrating multi-step AI or agent-driven workflows, including selecting appropriate models, tools, and execution patterns for different use cases
- Strong judgment reviewing and hardening AI-assisted output for security, scalability, maintainability, and architectural fit
- Experience building or maintaining prompts, evaluation frameworks, documentation, or operational context systems that improve engineering velocity and reliability
- Familiarity with automated evaluation and feedback loops for AI-enabled systems and workflows
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in agency, consultancy, or enterprise SaaS organizations
- AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud certifications

Code and Theory Insights
What We Do
Code and Theory is a strategically driven, digital-first creative agency that lives at the intersection of creativity and technology. We solve consumer and business problems across the entire customer journey that flex to meet the ever-changing needs of consumer expectations. We put the user, their behaviors and needs, at the center of everything we do — from our proprietary research methodologies, to product development processes, to how we create brand, channel and messaging strategies. Our goal is simple: to solve our clients business problems. We bring big ideas to life by looking holistically at brand ecosystems where digital plays a prominent role in driving the consumer from first-touch through to conversion to relationship deepening over time. We identify gaps in the consumer journey and opportunities in culture that require products, services or communications to fill. We work across categories, ranging as far and wide as health care (Pfizer, Sanofi, Reach MD, Bioreference Laboratories) to financial services (JP Morgan Chase, Prudential, Morgan Stanley, First Data) to cpg (Mars, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson) to technology companies (Facebook, Xerox, Samsung, Comcast) to culture brands (adidas, H&M). And because our DNA is in publishing — we’ve embedded in over 135 newsrooms in the past decade — we bring unique expertise in understanding how content is created, distributed and optimized, including our work with CNN, NBC News, NBC Sports, and Bustle Digital Group. At Code and Theory, we strive to only be limited by our own ambition and creativity. We believe in pushing our creativity beyond the easy and obvious answers in order to deliver the solutions that are right for our clients, their businesses, and their consumers.
