Position Summary

The Senior Director of Campaign Operations & Communications is a key leadership role responsible for translating the vision and priorities of UWGA’s multi-year campaign into integrated strategies, communications, donor experiences, and measurable results.

Working closely with the Vice President of Multi-Year and Transformational Giving, this role leads campaign communications and content strategy, executive and Campaign Cabinet support, proposal development, donor engagement, cross-functional coordination, and strategic performance reporting. The Senior Director also provides strategic oversight of campaign operations and implementation, ensuring consistent execution, strong alignment, and continued campaign momentum.

 

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Strategy & Leadership

  • Partner with the Vice President to translate campaign vision and fundraising priorities into actionable strategies, workplans, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead integrated campaign planning across fundraising, communications, donor engagement, stewardship, and operations.
  • Establish priorities and accountability across campaign workstreams while identifying risks, opportunities, and barriers requiring leadership attention.
  • Provide senior leaders and the Campaign Cabinet with clear visibility into campaign progress, priorities, and strategic opportunities.

Campaign Communications & Content Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of donor, executive, volunteer, and campaign communications in partnership with Marketing and organizational leadership.
  • Shape campaign narratives that clearly communicate UWGA’s vision, impact, investment opportunities, and value proposition.
  • Direct the development of proposals, case materials, presentations, executive correspondence, donor communications, briefings, talking points, and campaign collateral.
  • Translate complex programmatic, financial, and impact information into clear and compelling donor-facing content.
  • Establish messaging standards and provide final strategic and editorial review of priority campaign communications.

Executive & Campaign Cabinet Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic liaison among the Vice President, Executive Office, campaign leadership, and other organizational leaders.
  • Provide strategic counsel, briefing materials, talking points, prospect strategies, and solicitation support for significant donor and Campaign Cabinet engagements.
  • Serve as staff support for the Campaign Cabinet Chair.
  • Develop resources that equip volunteer and executive leaders to cultivate prospects, make introductions, and advance campaign priorities.
  • Track significant commitments, introductions, opportunities, and follow-up requiring executive or Cabinet involvement.

Donor Strategy & Proposal Development

  • Lead the development of complex major and transformational gift proposals and customized donor engagement strategies.
  • Manage the proposal lifecycle from initial strategy and development through organizational alignment, presentation, and follow-up.
  • Partner with fundraising staff to align donor interests with campaign priorities and investment opportunities.
  • Support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, including direct donor engagement when appropriate.
  • Develop customized stewardship strategies that demonstrate the progress, impact, and significance of donor investments.

Events & Strategic Experiences

  • Provide strategic direction for campaign events and experiences designed to cultivate, engage, solicit, and steward donors.
  • Define the objectives, audiences, messaging, and intended outcomes for priority campaign experiences.
  • Develop executive-level briefing materials, speaker messaging, run-of-show documents, and engagement strategies.
  • Ensure events are integrated into broader donor strategies and followed by purposeful relationship-building and fundraising activity.

Campaign Performance & Organizational Alignment

  • Establish campaign reporting priorities and performance frameworks in partnership with campaign leadership.
  • Analyze fundraising pipeline, donor engagement, proposals, and campaign progress to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Translate campaign data into actionable insights, forecasts, and recommendations for senior leadership and the Campaign Cabinet.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment among Development, Marketing, Finance, Community Impact, the Executive Office, and other teams.
  • Establish scalable operating frameworks, processes, and standards that strengthen campaign execution, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, campaign management, donor engagement, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience developing executive communications, donor proposals, presentations, and other strategic fundraising materials.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and build relationships with senior leaders, donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, project management, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience supporting a major, capital, comprehensive, or transformational fundraising campaign.
  • Experience working with volunteer leadership groups, boards, or campaign cabinets.
  • Experience with fundraising CRM systems and donor reporting.
  • CFRE, PMP, or other relevant professional certification.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, nonprofit management, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, campaign management, donor engagement, communications, or a related field
  • Experience developing executive communications, donor proposals, presentations, and strategic fundraising materials
  • Ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and build relationships with senior leaders, donors, volunteers, and stakeholders
  • Exceptional writing, communication, project management, and organizational skills
