Third is looking for a Senior Digital Media Advisor to manage Third Way’s social media strategy and platforms as a means to participate in the political conversation, interact with journalists and influencers, and to promote Third Way’s views, campaigns, and products. This role will have a big impact in national politics including the race for the White House, elevating a generation of center-left leaders, building durable majorities in Congress, and bolstering the broader moderate movement. The Senior Digital Media Advisor is ideal for someone who is highly creative, able to identify openings in national political and policy conversations and can create engaging content using basic design and video editing tools.

As the Senior Digital Media Advisor, a typical day might include…

  • Drafting timely, creative digital content on Third Way’s political narrative and policy products;

  • Preparing the strategy for Third Way’s digital communications outreach in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Marketing and manages the development and execution of tactics to implement that strategy and monitor the progress;

  • Developing Third Way’s year-round advertising plan across platforms in partnership with the Deputy Director of Marketing. Oversees the execution, monitors and proposes adjustments where necessary to ensure the success of the plan;

  • Leading topic specific, multi-platform digital campaigns as assigned;

  • Partnering with Third Way communications staff and program staff on digital campaign plans for paid advertisements, drafting copy, preparing audience targets, proposing and collaborating on creative development, and monitoring their progress;

  • Identifying opportunities for the Third Way handle and other organizational accounts and spokespeople to engage in the political conversation online and build relationships with influential people and groups;

  • Monitoring important digital conversations for Third Way’s engagement and flags opportunities for relevant senior leaders;

  • Pitching and executing digital content in a variety of mediums (eg. video, graphics, tweet threads);

  • Tracking and monitoring Third Way’s brand performance and the progress toward our digital objectives;

  • Collaborating with Third Way teams to help plan and execute digital content for events and product roll-outs;

  • Advising and training Third Way staff and programs on best practices for the platforms and digital communications;

  • May supervisor staff; and

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $84,000 - $95,000, annually

This might be the job for you, if you have…

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field plus 3-5 years relevant work experience in US government, on a political campaign, as a journalist, or in the private sector.

  • An understanding of US politics and its major Democratic players;

  • Video editing and design skills are highly desired;

  • A solid grasp of online culture and norms and excellent judgment on which norms and language are a good fit for the organization;

  • A demonstrated ability to write accurate, pithy, culturally relevant content for a wide audience;

  • Passion for creative storytelling;

  • Experience interacting with and responding to high impact organizations and leaders on social media;

  • Familiarity with paid advertising on social platforms; and

  • Comfort working in digital platforms and programs potentially including the Adobe suite, Canva, and Snapstream.

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU'LL...

  • Participate in Third Way’s comprehensive onboarding program. You’ll learn about all aspects of Business Operations, which includes HR, Benefits, IT, Finance, and office operations.

  • Meet your Third Way Buddy, be introduced to the entire staff, and start to learn the TW’s culture.

  • Learn our current processes for payroll, compliance, and labor tracking, and how you will partner with Finance and the rest of the Business Operations team on these processes.

  • Participate in weekly one-on-ones with your manager to ensure you fully understand the expectations of the job.

  • Attend weekly team meetings. You’ll learn about the key goals of each member of your program, their progress toward these goals, what challenges they face, and how you will contribute.

  • Familiarize yourself with Third Way’s social media presence and online voice.

  • Participate in messaging conversations and briefings with your supervisor about Third Way’s priorities, ongoing campaigns, and our work in the political and policy space.

  • Join the communications team in developing creative digital ideas and products to support our top campaigns.

WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU'LL...

  • Gain an understanding of each employee’s role and their contribution to the organization.

  • Attend program overview sessions to learn more about each team’s contribution to TW’s mission.

  • Incorporate TW’s Style Guide and Production process into your work products.

  • Participate in, at least, one of our internal Professional Development trainings or a Center for Fun activity.

  • Draft all of Third Way’s social media posts and manage the day-to-day posting on all digital platforms.

  • Prepare regular reports on platform analytics and provide key insights.

  • Bring new ideas and suggestions to your weekly one-on-ones with your manager.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU'LL…

  • Feel a sense of comfort and familiarity with the staff, your team, and your work.

  • Continue to attend weekly departmental meetings with a stronger understanding of your team’s strategic goal.

  • Bring new ideas and suggestions to your weekly one-on-ones with your manager.

  • Attend and participate in external functions with other members of your team.

  • Complete your 90-day self-evaluation and performance review with your manager.

  • Partner with your manager to establish your long-term goals for the remainder of the year.

  • Take over primary management of Third Way’s social media channels.

  • Create and manage Third Way’s social media content calendar.

  • Lead content creation for all of Third Way’s digital media accounts.

  • Partner with other members of the communications team and our policy and political analysts to prepare content to elevate important findings and data.
