Summary Generated by Built In

Develop Health is on a mission to use AI to radically accelerate access to life-saving medications. By automating complex, manual healthcare processes—like benefit verification and prior authorization— we've been growing rapidly and over the past couple of years have helped over 2.5 million patients!

We’re partnering with some of the largest pharmacy benefit managers and payers in the nation, revolutionizing how healthcare interactions occur by eliminating human delays and inefficiencies. Our small, elite team of founders and engineers have previously launched and exited successful healthcare startups including Rupa Health and Canvas Medical. We are now scaling rapidly following a major funding round.

About The Role

We're hiring a Sales Development Representative to call doctors' offices on behalf of the pharmacies we work with.

When a pharmacy sends us a prescription that needs a prior authorization, we usually need something from the prescriber's office first, most often the clinical notes. You'll call them, find the person who handles prior authorizations, and get them to act: upload the notes, fax them back, or tell us how they'd like to work with us. You'll also answer and return their callbacks.

This isn't a sales job in the usual sense. Nobody is buying anything. But the skills are the same ones a great SDR has: getting past a busy front desk, saying what you need in ten seconds, and getting a stranger to commit to a next step. Every call you move faster gets a patient their medication sooner.

You'll join a small, in-person calling team in Salt Lake City that works in a calling tool our engineers built and improve every week, reporting to our Sales Development Manager.

Three things define success in this role:

  1. You work the queue fast. New calling tasks get a first dial within a business day, and callbacks are returned the same day.

  2. Offices respond. You reach the right person and get a commitment more often than not, and your response rate goes up as you learn.

  3. You make the work better. You log every call cleanly and tell us what's slowing you down, what offices say, and what we should change.

This role will be based in Salt Lake City, initially on a remote basis but hybrid longer-term, as we're building out a hub there.

You'd also be working an earlier shift (7am-4pm) in order to catch East Coast prospects.

What You'll Do
  • Make outbound calls to provider offices every day, working a prioritized queue.

  • Find who handles prior authorizations at each office, and get the request in front of them.

  • Answer inbound callbacks and return missed ones the same day.

  • Log the outcome of every call in our calling tool, including what the office prefers and why they did or didn't respond.

  • Make discovery calls to offices that haven't responded, to learn why and how they'd rather work with us.

  • Share what you hear with the team, so scripts, faxes, and tooling keep getting better.

What You'll Bring On Day 1
  • You're great on the phone. Friendly, clear, and persistent without being pushy. You can get a busy front desk to help you.

  • Outbound calling experience. A year or more as an SDR or BDR, in patient access or scheduling, at a pharmacy or hub, or in another high-volume calling role.

  • You work to numbers. You know your dials, connects, and conversion, and you like watching them go up.

  • Organized and reliable. You log everything and follow up when you said you would.

  • Comfortable with tools. You pick up a new dialer or CRM quickly.

What You'll Need To Learn Quickly
  • Prior authorization basics: what a provider office needs from us, and why.

  • How a provider office works: who answers the phone, who handles prior authorizations, and who to ask for.

  • The rules: what HIPAA allows on a call, and with whom.

Bonus Points
  • Experience calling medical offices, at a pharmacy, specialty hub, or medical practice.

  • Familiarity with prior authorizations, CoverMyMeds, or EHRs.

  • Spanish or another second language.

This Might Not Be The Right Fit If
  • You want to close deals or earn a big commission. This role is measured on speed and response, not revenue.

  • You don't like being on the phone most of the day. That's the job.

  • You'd rather not start early. Provider offices span the country, so the team works roughly 7am to 4pm Mountain time.

  • You need everything figured out on day one. The team and the tools are new, and you'll help shape both.

What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary, variable pay tied to the team's calling metrics, and early-stage equity.

  • A calling tool built in-house and improving every week, with engineers who want your feedback.

  • Work that directly speeds up access to medication for patients, with room to grow as the team scales.

Skills Required

  • At least one year of outbound calling experience as an SDR, BDR, patient access or scheduling representative, pharmacy or hub representative, or in another high-volume calling role.
  • Strong phone communication skills, including the ability to be friendly, clear, persistent, and effective with busy front desks.
  • Ability to work toward and monitor calling metrics such as dials, connects, and conversion.
  • Organized and reliable; able to log interactions and complete promised follow-ups.
  • Comfort learning and using new dialers, CRM systems, and calling tools.
  • Ability to work an early shift, approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mountain time.
  • Experience calling medical offices, pharmacies, specialty hubs, or medical practices.
  • Familiarity with prior authorizations, CoverMyMeds, or EHRs.
  • Spanish or another second language.
