At Hiverge, our mission is to build algorithmic superintelligence: an AI discovery engine that automatically writes algorithms for the most critical optimisation problems.
Our founding team is composed of world-class researchers from Google DeepMind and University of Cambridge, having co-developed AlphaTensor, FunSearch, AlphaEvolve and Nobel-prize winning AlphaFold. At Hiverge, you will be working with the brightest minds in AI, algorithms, and mathematics.

About this role
We are seeking a Research Engineer. You will be in charge of researching and implementing ideas around making agents collaborate together. You will play a key role in designing the next generation of discovery engines.
You will:
Investigate how research agents can work together to achieve a predetermined goal, and iterate quickly on these research ideas.
Design and run experiments to improve the capabilities and efficiency of our system.
Work together with our team of research engineers and leadership to align technical advances with product and business objectives.
Stay at the forefront of developments in AI agents, language models, search, optimisation, and automated discovery.
Qualifications
Having a PhD in Maths/CS/EE or related field, with a good track-record of publications.
Having contributed to/started open source projects, demonstrating strong software engineering skills with experience building complex systems in Python.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across research and engineering disciplines.
What sets you apart
Experience with GPU programming / optimisation.
Experience with agentic systems, planning, or reasoning frameworks.
Background in algorithms & optimisation.
Experience building evaluation frameworks and experimentation platforms.
Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
Having experience working in a startup environment.

Skills Required
- Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong coding skills in Python and experience with PyTorch/JAX
- 3+ years in applied research engineering
- Exposure to evaluation frameworks, unit/property‑based testing, and performance profiling
