The Role
Perform manual and automated testing across web, mobile, APIs, and databases. Design test plans and reusable automation frameworks, validate functionality and data, manage defects, analyze failures, and execute regression suites through CI/CD pipelines. Collaborate with Agile development, product, business analysis, and DevOps teams throughout the SDLC. Use programming, SQL, reporting, version control, and AI-assisted tools to support reliable software releases.
Summary Generated by Built In
As a QA Engineer, you
will be responsible for ensuring reliable, scalable, and high-quality software
releases through strong testing fundamentals and hands-on experience in Web UI Testing,
Mobile Testing, API testing, database validation, and CI/CD-based test
execution. You will work closely with Developers, Product Owners, Business
Analysts, and DevOps teams throughout the Software Development Life Cycle,
taking features from requirement analysis through test design, manual and
automated validation, defect reporting, regression automation, and release
validation. A strong engineering mindset, programming knowledge, and the
ability to identify issues beyond basic functional validation are expected.
Essential Functions / Deliverables:
Requirement Analysis & Test Planning:
Analyze business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, and participate in requirement grooming and sprint planning sessions.
Identify functional, integration, regression, and edge-case scenarios, and prepare test scenarios, test cases, and test data.
Identify potential quality risks early in the development lifecycle.
Provide test effort estimates for assigned stories and features.
Functional & Manual Testing:
Perform functional, integration, system, regression, smoke, sanity, end-to-end, exploratory, and cross-browser testing.
Validate applications against functional and non-functional requirements before release
Apply test design techniques including boundary value analysis, equivalence partitioning, and risk-based testing.
Web & Mobile (Manual and Automation) Testing:
Design, develop, and maintain Manual and automated test scripts for web as well as Mobile applications using Playwright (preferred), Selenium WebDriver, or Cypress
Apply Page Object Model and reusable automation architecture, fixtures, assertions, explicit waits and synchronization, and browser contexts and sessions.
Implement data-driven and parameterized tests, parallel and cross-browser execution, retry strategies, and environment configuration.
Use screenshots, videos, and traces for failure analysis, and debug and maintain existing automation frameworks rather than only writing individual scripts.
Write automation using TypeScript/JavaScript (preferred), Java, or Python, applying OOP fundamentals, exception handling, JSON manipulation, and file handling.
API Testing:
Test and automate REST APIs using Postman, Playwright API, REST Assured, Karate, or Newman; automation is preferred over manual Postman testing only.
Validate GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE methods, HTTP status codes, headers, query and path parameters, and request/response payloads.
Verify authentication and authorization using bearer tokens, JWT, and OAuth basics.
Perform API schema validation, response validation, and negative API testing.
Database Testing:
Write SQL queries using SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, JOIN, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, aggregate functions, and subqueries.
Validate data between the UI/API and backend databases.
Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
Defect Management:
Identify, reproduce, and document software defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
Assign appropriate severity and priority, and collaborate with developers during defect investigation.
Perform defect retesting and verification, and participate in root-cause analysis for recurring production or regression issues.
Use Jira, Azure DevOps, Zephyr, Xray, or similar test and defect management platforms.

CI/CD, Continuous Testing & Version Control:
Trigger automated test suites from pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitLab CI/CD) and support continuous regression execution.
Analyze pipeline failures, troubleshoot failed tests, and manage environment-specific configurations.
Use Git (clone, pull, push, commit, branch, merge, pull/merge requests, conflict resolution) on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or Azure Repos.
Test Reporting & Failure Analysis:
Analyze and communicate automation execution results using Allure, Playwright HTML, Extent, Cucumber, or Jenkins/Azure DevOps reports.
Distinguish between product defects, automation defects, environment failures, test-data failures, and infrastructure issues.
Agile / Scrum Collaboration:
Participate in Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Daily Stand-up, Sprint Review, Retrospective, and Defect Triage.
Collaborate continuously with Developers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and DevOps rather than treating testing as a separate end-of-cycle activity.
AI-Assisted Quality Engineering:
Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) for test generation, test-data generation, log and failure analysis, automation code generation, and test-case optimization.
Review, validate, and maintain AI-generated tests and code using standard engineering practices.
