About this role
As a Proposal Strategist, you will support the development and delivery of compelling, compliant responses for U.S. federal and defense opportunities at Andrenam. You will own individual proposals from customer engagement through final submission, coordinating input from engineering and business development, and ensuring each response is complete, accurate, and delivered on time.
This is a hands-on, writing-oriented role. In addition to owning proposals, you will take on light technical writing and documentation work as capacity allows, helping take some of that load off engineering. You will work closely with engineers, business development, and other subject-matter experts to develop original technical content, tailor existing material to specific customer needs, and edit contributions into a clear and consistent narrative. Success requires the ability to learn new technology quickly, build content from limited source material, and write clearly about solutions for the first time.
This is an opportunity to join a small, fast-growing team building autonomous maritime systems for the defense and national security sector, with real ownership from day one. You will be the first Proposal Strategist on our team, with room to shape how this function grows as we scale.
Proposal Development and Execution:
- Own individual proposals, white papers, and other written responses from handoff through final submission
- Analyze solicitation instructions, evaluation criteria, amendments, and submission requirements
- Participate in customer-facing meetings to understand scope, priorities, and evaluation criteria
- Develop and maintain outlines, schedules, and compliance checklists for the responses you own
- Identify schedule, content, compliance, and resource risks early and escalate issues that could affect submission quality or timeliness
- Coordinate inputs from engineering, business development, and other contributors
Technical Writing and Editing:
- Interview engineers, business development leads, and other subject-matter experts to develop accurate, understandable technical narratives
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, customer-focused writing
- Tailor content to each customer's specific mission needs and evaluation criteria
- Apply independent judgment to tighten structure, verify technical accuracy, and strengthen the argument in every draft
- Edit contributions from multiple authors into a consistent voice while preserving technical accuracy
Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Work with business development and cross-functional team members to incorporate approved pursuit strategy and differentiators throughout each response
- Support technical writing or documentation work as capacity allows
- Bachelor's degree in English, communications, technical writing, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
- Ability to quickly learn complex technical material and translate it into clear, compelling content
- A customer-first instinct, able to build a proposal around the customer's problem rather than a list of product features
- Strong critical thinking, sound judgment and the ability to resolve ambiguity and maintain quality under deadline pressure
Location
Work full-time onsite from our Washington, D.C. office, with occasional travel to our Los Angeles headquarters.

Salary Range
$100,000-$130,000
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full time offers; and are considered part of Andrenam's total compensation package. Additionally, Andrenam offers top-tier benefits for full-time employees, including: medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.

The base pay range for this role is $100,000 – $130,000 per year.
