Located in Westminster, SC, Ulbrich Specialty Wire Products (USWP), is on the technical forefront of the metals industry delivering precision products to an increasingly diversified and global marketplace, including applications in the solar energy, medical, industrial and electronics industries. We seek an experienced Process Engineer with a solid background in lean manufacturing and process improvement. The position report to the Director of Process Engineering.

Job Description

We are seeking a results-driven Process Engineer to support and improve manufacturing processes within our Specialty Wire business unit.  this role works with production, quality, product development, and sales to optimize manufacturing performance, troubleshoot process issues, support new product introductions, and drive continuous improvement.  The ideal candidate is passionate about solving manufacturing challenges, improving quality and efficiency, and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.  Responsibilities for this position include: develop and implement manufacturing processes for existing and/or new products.  Plan and conduct trials to improve the processes.  Provide day to day manufacturing support.  Troubleshoot manufacturing process or equipment issues as needed.  Interface with customers and suppliers; and collaborate with internal staff to meet and support customer requirements.  Investigate issues and opportunities, develop and implement action plans.  Support continual improvement and work to continuously improve quality and reduce costs.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, or related Engineering field, with a strong background in Process Improvement and Lean Manufacturing;
  • 3+ years of process engineering or manufacturing experience (co-op/internship experience considered); 
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with process improvements; equipment optimization; troubleshooting; and root cause analysis;
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods;
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledgeable in lean manufacturing methods such as 5S, 8D, A3 and other contemporary productivity and quality improvement methods;
  • Proficient with statistical analysis and quality systems;
  • Strong analytical, communication and collaboration skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing environment;
  • Preferred:  Experience in wire, cable, metals, or continuous manufacturing, new product introduction, equipment installation, and process validation;
  • Intermediate-level user of MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
