Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal Solutions Architect to join our Data Engineering team. In this role, you will serve as a senior technical leader across strategic client accounts, partnering directly with clients to understand business objectives, shape Data & AI strategy, architect scalable solutions, and identify opportunities to expand the partnership. You'll combine deep technical expertise with strong consulting and commercial skills to solve complex technical challenges, influence executive stakeholders, and translate client priorities into new opportunities for phData. You won't simply design and deliver solutions—you'll help lead the account, build trusted executive relationships, create demand, and drive measurable client and revenue outcomes while embracing AI-first engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic discovery across client accounts to uncover business priorities, technical challenges, and emerging opportunities, translating them into scalable Data & AI architectures, roadmaps, and opportunities for expanded client engagement.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor and trusted partner to client executives and technical leaders, helping shape account strategy, strengthen relationships, and identify opportunities where phData can deliver additional value.
- Provide clear recommendations on architecture, tooling, implementation approaches, and technical trade-offs, while shaping solution strategy, scoping new opportunities, contributing to proposals and SOWs, and partnering with account and sales leaders to convert client needs into revenue-generating engagements.
- Lead and oversee the successful delivery of enterprise Data & AI solutions across strategic accounts, ensuring architectural quality and client outcomes while guiding engineering teams, proactively identifying technical and account risks, and creating a clear path from successful delivery to continued account growth.
- Leverage AI throughout the software delivery lifecycle to improve solution design, engineering productivity, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and client outcomes while helping clients identify and prioritize practical AI opportunities that can become broader transformation initiatives.
- Mentor architects and engineers through architectural guidance, technical coaching, design reviews, and contribute to hiring, onboarding, technical enablement, and raising the technical and consulting capabilities of the broader organization.

You enjoy solving complex data challenges, building trusted relationships with senior technical and business leaders, and identifying where technology can create measurable business value. You combine deep hands-on expertise in modern Data & AI platforms with strong consulting and commercial instincts. You are equally comfortable challenging an architecture, advising an executive, shaping an account strategy, developing a new solution opportunity, and partnering with sales and delivery leaders to turn client needs into successful engagements and long-term revenue growth.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Solutions Architecture, Data Engineering, or related consulting roles, including experience operating as a senior technical leader across complex enterprise client accounts.
- Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise Data & AI solutions into production within cloud environments while owning technical strategy and outcomes across multiple projects, workstreams, or client initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience delivering with AI, leveraging modern AI technologies throughout the software delivery lifecycle to improve solution design, engineering productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and client outcomes.
- Strong consulting experience leading technical discovery, solution architecture, executive client engagements, and account growth, including identifying opportunities, shaping solutions, contributing to proposals and SOWs, and helping generate revenue within existing or new client relationships.
Technical / Functional Skills
- Hands-on experience with many of the following cloud and data platforms: Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
- Hands-on experience with data engineering technologies: Python, SQL, Java and/or Scala, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt, Fivetran, Matillion, or similar technologies.
- Experience with modern engineering practices including: CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, and monitoring.
- Experience incorporating AI into day-to-day engineering and solution delivery using technologies such as: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Snowflake Cortex AI, AWS Bedrock, LangChain, LangGraph, or similar enterprise AI development platforms and frameworks.

Skills Required
- 15-20 years of experience
- 8+ years as a hands-on Solutions Architect designing and implementing data solutions
- Consulting leadership experience with external customers and multi-project management
- Strong programming expertise in Python and/or Scala
- Java experience

- SQL proficiency including writing, debugging, and optimizing queries
- Experience with modern data transformation frameworks: dbt (data build tool)
- Demonstrated expertise leading and managing teams of Solution Architects and Data Engineers
- Proven track record collaborating with client stakeholders, technology partners, and cross-functional teams
- Client-facing written and verbal communication skills and presentation delivery experience
- Ability to develop end-to-end technical solutions into production with performance, security, and scalability
- Detailed solution documentation (POCs, roadmaps, sequence diagrams, logical system views)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or Master's in Computer Applications or equivalent
- Production experience with data integration technologies (Spark, Kafka, Flink, Streamsets, Matillion, Fivetran, NiFi, AWS DMS, Azure DataFactory, Informatica IICS, Google DataProc)
- Experience with cloud/distributed storage (S3, ADLS, HDFS, Kudu, Elasticsearch/Solr, Cassandra)
- Experience with data observability and quality tools (Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, Acceldata)
