Connect to the grid faster with Piq
The Role
Design, build, test, and improve autonomous transmission and grid-planning software. Manage electricity network data and models, support power-system analytics, and assist users. The role requires expertise in utility interconnection processes, grid planning standards, steady-state and dynamic power-system studies, plant model development, and Python automation. Candidates will collaborate globally with utilities, system operators, developers, and internal technical teams.

Mission

The power grid is the backbone of national security, the economy, and the energy transition—and growing uncertainty is making it harder to maintain reliability while integrating new generation and serving rapid load growth. As a result, generation developers, large load developers, and electric utilities are forced to plan and build with imperfect data and slow study workflows, making interconnection and long-term planning slower, riskier, and more uncertain.

Piq Energy accelerates the energy transition with an automated network model management system and autonomous grid planning and interconnection software. Our products and technology supercharge technical analysis around transmission and distribution grids for generation, storage, and load developers, as well as utilities and system operators across North America and Europe.

Role

Piq Energy is looking for a talented transmission planning engineer with coding experience to expand our global team! You can be located in any country if you have experience working with US utility companies. You will design, build, test, and iterate on our core autonomous grid planning product. In addition, you will be managing grid data and models, support our power system analytics team and our users!

Minimum Requirements

Note: candidates that do not meet the minimum requirements may still be considered for a more junior role.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
  • Business-level English skills
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in roles at a utility, system operator, engineering consultancy or similar.
  • High interconnection fluency (cluster processes, study phases, upgrades/costs, queue dynamics)
  • Good understanding of technical standards and regulations related to electricity grid planning, development, operation, and interconnection.
  • Hands-on experience with commercial power system analysis tools for steady-state and dynamic studies and plant model building (e.g., PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld).
  • Proven ability to manage and maintain detailed electricity network models.
  • Working knowledge in Python, particularly for automating grid studies, performing data analysis, and generating reports.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a strong customer-focused mindset.

Bonus

  • Experience with open source power system simulation software (e.g. PowSyBl, pandapower, PyPSA).
  • Experience with advanced analysis techniques, such as stability, EMT, or real-time simulations
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), modern software development tools and frameworks, containerization (e.g., Docker), and cloud computing platforms.
  • Working knowledge of the CIM (Common Information Model) standard for power systems.

Compensation

The base salary range is location dependent plus equity.
