Summary
The Portfolio Strategist is an investment professional responsible for representing Manning & Napier’s investment strategies and capabilities to clients and prospects. This person acts as an integral part of the sales and service process and possesses deep knowledge about the investment philosophy, process, and portfolio positioning for the firm’s investment solutions. This knowledge enables the Portfolio Strategist to be a credible representative of the investment team & strategy to key external audiences, including consultants, advisors, institutions, and direct client relationships. The Portfolio Strategist is generally not responsible for maintaining any client, prospect, or intermediary relationships on their own; instead, they work side-by-side with our distribution professionals to represent our solutions and meet client needs. However, at certain times and for specific key relationships the Strategist may be the lead relationship professional. The Portfolio Strategist will serve as the firm’s primary spokesperson for designated investment solutions and must develop and maintain a strong knowledge of product features, including investment, operational, and competitive aspects.
The Portfolio Strategist will collaborate with portfolio specialists to understand and develop messaging, content, and competitive analytics , as well as actively engage in portfolio management discussions with investment teams, with a goal of conveying this information effectively to colleagues, prospects, clients, and intermediaries. The Portfolio Strategist, as a representative of the firm’s investment professionals & strategies, must have a strong understanding of markets to be perceived as a credible & knowledgeable investment professional, and is also expected to contribute to the firm’s thought leadership efforts.
The Portfolio Strategist will report to the Director of the Portfolio Strategies Group.
Responsibilities
- Represent the firm with clients and prospects across multiple channels (financial advisors, institutional consultants, research analysts, Taft-Hartley plans & other institutions)
- Participate in and/or lead finals presentations and client service meetings
- Participate in and/or facilitate due diligence meetings and reviews
- Represent the firm at sales/marketing meetings, client seminars, conferences, and other speaking opportunities
- Contribute to production of original investment content for internal and external distribution
- Work closely in partnership with distribution, marketing, & client services teams to holistically support distribution efforts.
- Participate in product development discussions
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ of investment-related experience in the investment management industry
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Strong analytical ability and knowledge of investment markets
- Confidence and presence in client sales/service settings
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment across multiple disciplines and departments
- Nationwide coverage demanding up to 30-50% travel time
- CFA strongly preferred
- CAIA or prior alternatives investment experience preferred

Compensation: $115-125k expected base salary; additional incentive compensation expected

- 7+ years investment-related experience in the investment management industry

- Strong analytical ability and knowledge of investment markets
- Confidence and presence in client sales/service settings
- Ability to train and mentor junior team members
- CFA and/or MBA strongly preferred
- CAIA or prior Alternatives Strategy experience strongly preferred
