Join our Operations Engineering team as an Optical CM Support Engineer, where you will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and sustaining advanced optical assembly processes used in high-speed optical transceivers, photonic integrated circuit (PIC) modules, optical engines, and communication systems. You will work across the entire product lifecycle, from New Product Introduction (NPI) through high-volume manufacturing, driving process optimization, yield improvement, and root cause analysis.
In this role, you will support critical optical assembly technologies including fiber preparation, fusion splicing, fiber routing, optical connector and receptacle integration, active optical alignment, optical packaging, and photonic assembly processes. You will leverage optical measurement systems, microscopy, cross-sectional analysis, and reliability testing to ensure robust manufacturing processes and exceptional optical performance. Responsibilities- Strong background in optical manufacturing processes and fiber optic assembly technologies.
- Hands-on experience with fusion splicing equipment, process development, optimization, and qualification.
- Expertise in fiber preparation (stripping, cleaving, cleaning, recoating) and best practices
- Experience with fiber routing design, management, bend-radius control, and optical packaging integration.
- Familiarity with optical connectors, receptacles, ferrules, adapters, and cable assemblies for high-performance products.
- Knowledge of optical module assembly and alignment processes, including active and passive methodologies.
- Experience with optical measurement and characterization techniques (IL, RL, power, wavelength verification).
- Ability to perform root cause analysis using optical microscopy, connector inspection, and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with manufacturing process control, SPC, DOE, PFMEA, and structured problem-solving.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and transitioning products to high-volume manufacturing.
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with industry standards and test methodologies for optical communications and fiber optic assemblies.
- Experience with silicon photonics, PICs, co-packaged optics, or optical engine manufacturing.
- Experience with automated fiber alignment, robotic assembly systems, and precision motion platforms.
- Familiarity with Telcordia, IEC, GR standards, reliability engineering, and advanced optical test equipment (e.g., OSA, OTDR).
