Company Overview
Hankook Tire & Technology is a global leader in high-performance tire manufacturing, founded in 1941 and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. As the world’s seventh-largest tire producer, Hankook operates advanced manufacturing facilities and offices in North America, including its U.S. America Technical Center in Uniontown, Ohio. The company delivers innovative tire solutions for passenger vehicles, trucks, motorsports, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide.
About the Role:
We are seeking an NVH Test Engineer to support experimental and analytical evaluation of tire and wheel NVH performance. You will plan and execute modal, laboratory, and on-vehicle testing; maintain lab capability and quality systems; and use both measurement and simulation tools to assess contributions to noise, vibration, and harshness. The role includes periodic travel to proving-ground sites across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and perform experimental modal testing of tire assemblies and wheels under multiple boundary conditions; assess contributions to tire NVH performance.
- Interpret and apply vehicle OEM customer, industry, and governmental test standards and NVH performance requirements.
- Design test rigs and fixtures for modal and related NVH testing.
- Maintain NVH lab facilities, data-acquisition systems, computers, and transducers (accelerometers, force cells, microphones, etc.).
- Own quality management of the NVH lab, including control-chart testing and equipment calibrations.
- Conduct laboratory and on-vehicle sound and vibration measurements to assess tire NVH performance (on-vehicle work typically requires travel to proving-ground locations).
- Perform tire uniformity studies and assess their contribution to NVH performance.
- Develop scripts (Excel and/or Python) to automate processes and implement analysis algorithms.
- Use company FE tools to predict NVH performance (Abaqus and NASTRAN); applying dynamic substructuring and nonlinear FEA techniques.
*Please note this is a sample of what you’ll be doing. This job requires you to be able to adapt to change quickly in order to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Your duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field (Master’s preferred).
- Hands-on experience with experimental modal analysis and NVH measurement of rotating or structural components (tires/wheels strongly preferred).
- Working experience with Siemens Testlab (LMS/Simcenter Testlab) hardware and software.
- Familiarity with OEM, industry, and regulatory NVH test standards and performance metrics. Experience maintaining NVH/DAQ labs: instrumentation, calibrations, and basic quality-control practices (control charts).
- Ability to design or specify simple test fixtures/rigs.
- Proficiency with Excel and at least one scripting language (Python preferred) for data handling and automation.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally; to U.S. proving-ground sites as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document methods and present results to internal and customer audiences.
*Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
