The Nursing Professional Development Generalist (NPD-G) is a specialized clinical technical educator holding an active LPN license or Paramedicine credential. Under the Director of Nursing Professional Development's supervision, the NPD-G delivers high-impact psychomotor skills instruction, operates and maintains simulation laboratory equipment, coordinates resuscitation courses, and conducts foundational skills validations for assistive and allied health personnel (e.g., Patient Care Technicians, Medical Assistants).
Additionally, the NPD-G provides essential operational coordination for the department—serving as a front-facing administrative resource, managing class rosters, tracking learning management system records, and maintaining clinical learning environments.
Minimum QualificationsLicensure & Credentials: Current, unencumbered license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Alabama OR an active Alabama/NREMT Paramedic license/credential required.
Certifications: Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification required. American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Instructor certification preferred upon hire (must be successfully obtained within six months of employment). ACLS and/or PALS Instructor credentials highly desirable.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of active clinical experience in an acute care hospital, pre-hospital emergency medical service (EMS), or emergency department setting.
Technical Aptitude: Demonstrated proficiency or clear aptitude in procedural skills demonstration, clinical simulation operations, or skills laboratory coordination.
Prior instructional experience teaching CPR/resuscitation courses, IV insertion/phlebotomy, or clinical skills workshops.
Experience with healthcare simulation technology, high- and low-fidelity manikins, and task trainers.
Familiarity with healthcare Learning Management Systems (e.g., HealthStream), classroom scheduling platforms, and clinical tracking software.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, and customer service skills using the AIDET framework.
Psychomotor & Procedural Skills Instruction: Facilitates hands-on technical skills labs, instructing clinical learners on essential psychomotor procedures including peripheral IV access, phlebotomy, airway management support, basic wound care, urinary catheterization, and 12-lead ECG lead placement.
Simulation Center & Lab Operations: Coordinates the technical setup, operation, breakdown, decontamination, and routine preventive maintenance of high- and low-fidelity manikins, task trainers, and clinical simulation equipment.
Resuscitation Course Coordination: Serves as a primary instructor for American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) training; assists in coordinating class schedules and issuance of completion cards.
Assistive Personnel Skills Validation: Leads initial onboarding skills check-offs and annual technical competency verifications for Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Medical Assistants (MAs), and other unlicensed assistive personnel.
Front-Desk & Departmental Support: Serves as the operational and administrative point of contact for the NPD department; greets visitors, answers routine clinical education questions, and triages requests to NPD Specialists and Leadership.
Learning Records & LMS Documentation: Maintains accurate, inspection-ready documentation of course rosters, attendance logs, resuscitation credential expirations, and skills verification checklists within the facility's LMS.
Lab Inventory & Supply Logistics: Manages educational inventory, orders consumable supplies, stocks skills lab areas, and ensures clean, safe, and organized learning environments.
Regulatory Compliance: Adheres to Joint Commission, CMS, and facility-specific safety standards across all educational and simulation spaces.
Technical Clinical Competence: Thorough understanding of frontline clinical procedures, asepsis, specimen collection, and vascular access techniques within scope of practice.
Instructional Delivery: Ability to break down multi-step clinical procedures into clear, accessible demonstrations for adult learners at varying experience levels.
Organizational Logistics: Strong administrative and time management skills to balance scheduled teaching sessions with walk-in inquiries and documentation demands.
Communication & Professionalism: High standards of professional conduct, active listening, and learner engagement aligned with organizational customer service expectations.
Skills Required
