KVII/KVIH is looking for a Multi-Media Journalist with a starting salary of $50,000 ($24.04/hr)!
We are seeking a driven, curious, and community-minded journalist who understands that advocacy journalism is not a side project for us — it is who we are.
This position is for someone who wants to do more than cover the news of the day. We are looking for a storyteller who is committed to asking tough questions, holding the powerful accountable, giving a voice to the voiceless, and following stories until they lead to answers, action, or change. Our best journalism identifies problems in the communities we serve and pushes for solutions.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can enterprise impactful local stories, develop strong sources, shoot and edit compelling video, and write clearly for broadcast and digital platforms. You should be comfortable working independently, turning daily content under deadline, and digging deeper when a story demands more context, follow-up, or accountability.
Responsibilities include:
- Covering daily news, breaking news, and enterprise stories across the Texas Panhandle and surrounding communities
- Pitching and producing advocacy-focused stories that identify community concerns, expose problems, and seek meaningful responses
- Shooting, writing, editing, and presenting stories for television, digital, and social platforms
- Developing sources and building trust with viewers, community members, and local leaders
- Following up on stories to make sure questions are answered and concerns are not forgotten
- Using social media and digital tools to find stories, engage audiences, and expand the reach of our journalism
Required skills and qualifications:
- Strong writing, storytelling, and news judgment
- Ability to shoot and edit video
- Comfortable reporting live and working under deadline pressure
- A commitment to accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism
- A passion for local news and serving the community
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Previous newsroom experience or a journalism degree is preferred, but we are most interested in candidates who are hungry to learn, eager to grow, and committed to making a difference through their reporting.
Advocacy journalism is central to our mission. We believe local journalism should help people, demand accountability, and shine a light on issues that matter. We are looking for an MMJ who shares that purpose and wants their work to have impact.
