The Role
Own end-to-end development of hardware products from concept and prototyping through manufacturing and field deployment. Lead cross-functional squads, define and prioritize problems, make cost, quality, and timeline trade-offs, drive design and validation reviews, manage budgets and product costs, identify and mitigate risks, and resolve field failures. The role requires hands-on experience with engineering, suppliers, production lines, and customer outcomes, plus the ability to lead without direct authority in an ambiguous environment.
Summary Generated by Built In

You'll be working with the product and engineering team.

This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion to build products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack) and e^pump (charging station) which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging.

Our philosophy: Break. Believe. Build.

There's no playbook for disruption. The only way to create a radical future is to continuously break, believe and build. You have to BREAK stuff, assumptions and the thumb rule. You have to BELIEVE in the process, in the team and through failures. You have to BUILD fast & passionately and build to simplify.

Job description

All product development at Exponent is delivered by cross-functional teams : internally referred to as squads. Each squad owns a target in cost, quality and timeline, and is led by a Module Lead.

The Module Lead is the single point of product ownership at the squad. You hold the trade-off calls: when cost, timeline and quality pull against each other. You own the outcome.

What you'll do

  • Own product development end-to-end : lead a cross-functional team to design, validate and manufacture, and take the product from the first prototype to a thousand units in the field
  • Define the problem statements and why it matters, prioritise which ones get solved first, then set the angle of attack towards resolution : design, process, manufacturing or supplier, and converge the team on a solution
  • Ensure the right people are on the problem and the angle of attack picks the owner
  • Drive design and gate reviews, and set the validation that proves the product performs for the customer
  • Make the customer outcome the northstar. Every trade-off comes back to what the driver, OEM or passenger experiences: uptime, cost per km, range, charge time, service turnaround and vehicle performance
  • Identify risk early across engineering, process, operations and service, and own mitigation to closure
  • Own the product cost target : drive design-to-cost and should-cost analysis through the product cycle
  • Own the module budget through the product development : R&D, homologation, testing, tooling
  • Close the loop from field failure back to design

What we're looking for

  • You've taken at least one hardware product from concept through production stabilisation, and stayed with it long enough to see it fail in the field and fix it
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and first-principles thinking:  to identify risk, resolve it, and take the trade-off calls
  • Strong analytical mindset. You reason from data  and drive data based decisions.
  • Obsessed with the product, not just the deliverable. You know who your customer is, what they're paying for, and what they'd switch to
  • You get hands on. You've been on the line, at the supplier, in the field
  • You've held a decision with conviction, and changed the strategy when the evidence turned
  • You lead and coordinate people who don't report to you
  • Comfortable with ambiguity,  building things that don't have a playbook
  • 5-10 years. Built hardware products that have gone into customer hands. Exposure to the EV ecosystem is a bonus, not a requirement

What matters

  • High ownership of work
  • Bias towards Action
  • Quality of work
  • Approach towards problem-solving
  • Dissatisfaction towards mediocre work
  • Resilient attitude to bounce back after failing

The 200+ strong team of passionate builders have a ton of EV experience and are currently looking for more builders to join one of the best EV teams in India to build & scale Exponent.

Skills Required

  • Experience taking at least one hardware product from concept through production stabilization and field failure resolution
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and first-principles problem-solving
  • Strong analytical mindset and ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Customer-focused product ownership and understanding of customer value
  • Hands-on experience working on production lines, with suppliers, and in the field
  • Experience making decisions with conviction and changing strategy based on evidence
  • Ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments without an established playbook
  • 5-10 years of experience building hardware products delivered to customers
  • Exposure to the electric vehicle ecosystem
