Ironsite is building the intelligence layer for the physical world. We design our own wearable hardware, deploy it alongside craft workers, and transform a shift's footage into a next-morning report. Our internal team and purpose-built models label the data overnight and deliver actionable insights to superintendents by 5 AM.
We are accelerating the speed, efficiency, and predictability of construction, especially for complex, mission-critical infrastructure projects, including data centers, LNG facilities, sports stadiums, hospitals, and other large-scale developments, by training AI models on egocentric construction footage and labor productivity data. We are built with a pro-worker philosophy at our core: we believe technology should empower the workforce, not replace it. We're working to give craft workers and project leaders better visibility into what's happening on-site, while creating a system where the reality of construction and the chaos of each day is finally available to the people running the project.
Ironsite is deployed across several of the largest active construction projects in the country. To date, we've captured more than 100,000 hours of construction footage across seven states, now process thousands of hours of site activity every day, and maintain a worker opt-out rate below two percent. This is enabled by a workforce-first architecture that anonymizes devices, captures no audio, and never releases raw video.
Ironsite is backed by leading investors (8VC, South Park Commons, Saga Ventures) and prominent operators across technology and construction, including Eric Schmidt, Jeff Dean, Jeff Rothschild, Mark Leslie, Scott Wu, Eric Glyman, Karim Atiyeh, Russell Kaplan, and others, alongside over a dozen construction industry operators who have joined us as partners in building this.
Longer term, we believe Ironsite is the foundation for what construction becomes in the next decade. We think the systems we're building are the operating system for how the physical world gets built, and will unlock a fundamentally different way of respect for our workforce. One where craft workers are more valued, more visible, and better paid for the skill they bring, and where the industry finally has the intelligence layer that makes autonomous construction possible. Both futures start with the same foundation.
We’re hiring a Mobile Lead to own one of the most mission-critical systems at Ironsite: the thousands of devices we provision and deploy as Ironsite body cameras in the field. This is our BOA program which we are scaling to 1,000+ devices by the end of the year across multiple different jobsites. It is just the beginning.
Every piece of data Ironsite produces starts with one of these devices working correctly in a worker’s hands on a jobsite. That makes this role the backbone of the company. You'll ship the app, but more importantly you'll keep it working: supporting it in the field, debugging issues you can't reproduce at your desk, and making it measurably more reliable every week. When something breaks at 6 AM on a jobsite, you're the person who finds out why and makes sure it doesn't happen again.
- Device provisioning & packaging. The end-to-end process of turning off-the-shelf Android phones into Ironsite body cameras such as imaging, configuration, lockdown (kiosk / lock-task mode), security hardening, and the repeatable pipeline that lets us provision hundreds of devices quickly and identically. You’ll make going from box to field-ready fast, consistent, and bulletproof.
- App reliability as a managed metric. Own crash rate, ANRs, battery drain, upload failures, and data loss as tracked numbers with targets. Reliability is the product.
- Field support and triage. The process that takes an issue from a superintendent's phone call to root cause, fix, and release. This includes clear escalation paths, a working relationship with field ops, and tooling that lets non-engineers capture what went wrong.
- Observability and remote diagnostics. Crash reporting, structured logging, remote log retrieval, device and session diagnostics, and feature flags. With these you can debug a phone on a jobsite 2,000 miles away without anyone touching it.
- Release and maintenance pipeline. Staged rollouts, kill switches, fast rollbacks, and regression testing across a wide device and OS matrix. You'll also handle Android OS and dependency upgrades and keep tech debt from compounding. Shipping should be boring and safe.
Technical Challenges You'll Solve
.
- Debugging in conditions you can't recreate. Bugs show up in the field on specific devices, OS versions, and network conditions, often with gloves on and no signal. You'll build the instrumentation and the instincts to find root causes from logs and telemetry, then fix them so they stay fixed.
- Being the interface every other team’s work depends on. Ironsite’s mobile layer is where the outputs of our hardware, AI research, data infrastructure, and integrations teams converge. The app has to be flexible enough to expose new capabilities as they ship, principled enough to keep the experience coherent as more layers in, and rigorous enough to give every other team fast feedback on how their work is landing. You’ll be at the center of that.
- Offline-first as a first-class citizen, not an afterthought. Jobsites have unreliable networks. A device might have no signal for hours. You'll design the capture, storage, and upload pipeline so no footage is ever lost, no matter what the network does.
- Building trust with a workforce skeptical of tech. Craft workers have been the object of a lot of failed jobsite technology. The experience has to feel like it was built for them, not at them. Every UX decision either builds trust with the workforce or erodes it. You’ll be the person making those calls.
What We're Looking For
- Deep native Android expertise in Kotlin (required). You’ve shipped production Android apps built in Kotlin that work reliably across a wide range of devices, OS versions, and network conditions. This is the core, non-negotiable requirement for the role.
- A background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Strong command of the modern Android stack like Kotlin, Jetpack / Jetpack Compose, coroutines, and the Android lifecycle, and a track record of shipping polished apps to the Play Store.
- Backend and systems fluency to support the mobile experience end to end: production experience with backend services (Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis) and cloud infrastructure (AWS). You know how mobile decisions ripple through the whole stack, and vice versa.
- Solid background in API design, third-party integrations, and real-time data and analytics surfaces, where correctness, performance, and clarity for downstream teams all matter at once.
- A collaborative instinct as this role sits at the intersection of every other technical team, and you’re the kind of engineer other teams want to work with because their work lands better through you.
- Systems thinking across end-to-end product architecture; you care as much about the seams between systems as the systems themselves.
- Typically 5+ years of mobile-focused product experience, the majority on native Android, with a track record of shipping things you’re proud of.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building Android for real-world conditions such as offline-first data, sync conflicts, unreliable networks, and non-technical users.
- Experience building and managing fleets of Android devices at scale (MDM, kiosk/lock-task mode, OTA updates, device provisioning), directly relevant as we scale BOA past 1,200 devices.
- Consumer-grade polish, where user experience and engagement matter as much as engineering rigor.
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, or similar operational industries where your users are in the field, not behind a desk.
- Genuine excitement for industries underserved by software, and interest in becoming one of the engineers who builds the mobile experience the physical world runs on.
- Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Autodesk, Trimble), HR tech, or similar enterprise workflow tools.
- San Francisco Bay Area (on-site)
- Base salary: $150k-$250k per year, commensurate with experience
- Meaningful founding-team equity.
- Full benefits including health, dental, vision, and 401(k) with 6% match
- Daily catered breakfast and lunch
- Office in San Francisco, next to Oracle Park and the Caltrain
Final compensation is determined by experience, location, and level.
CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $150,000 – $250,000 per year.

- Production experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and reliable, high-scale web applications
- Systems thinking for end-to-end product architecture and cross-team integration
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with Procore, Autodesk, Trimble, HR technology, or similar enterprise workflow tools
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, or similar operational industries
