Role Overview
We are seeking a technically rigorous and analytical MEP Design Engineer to spearhead engineering analysis, sizing, and system design for complex UK construction projects. Moving beyond basic drafting to focus heavily on first-principles engineering, performance calculations, and detailed technical documentation. You will ensure all Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP/PH) systems are engineered in strict compliance with UK Building Regulations, British Standards (BS/BS EN), and CIBSE codes, covering RIBA Stages 2 through 4.
Key Responsibilities & Technical Scope
UK Regulatory & Code Compliance: Engineer and size MEP systems in strict alignment with UK Building Regulations (Approved Documents), CIBSE Guides (A, B, C, etc.), and BS EN / British Standards.
Engineering Calculations & Sizing: Perform comprehensive, first-principles engineering calculations using industry tools (e.g., h2x, MagicCAD, IES VE, Amtech/ProDesign), including:
HVAC: Heating and cooling load calculations, psychrometric analysis, ventilation rates, duct pressure drops, and pipe sizing.
Electrical: Maximum demand calculations, cable sizing, earth fault loop impedance, and lighting design complying with CIBSE codes (LG6/LG7).
Public Health: Domestic hot and cold water pipe sizing (in line with HSG274 / Water Supply Regulations), foul and surface water drainage calculations (BS EN 12056).
RIBA Stage-Specific Design Delivery: Own technical deliverables across key design milestones:
RIBA Stage 2 (Concept Design): Defining preliminary loads, plant room space requirements, and energy strategies.
RIBA Stage 3 (Spatial Coordination / Developed Design): Finalizing system schematics, equipment selection, performance specifications, and drawing up design intent packages.
RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design): Producing detailed engineering specifications, schedules of work, and performance verification reports.
Design Governance & Specification Writing: Author comprehensive technical specifications, design basis reports (DBR), and tender documentation tailored to UK market standards.
Review & Quality Assurance: Review modeling and drafting outputs produced by junior team members to ensure the underlying engineering calculations, sizing, and design intent are accurately represented.
Requirements
Position: MEP Design Engineer (UK projects)
Education: B.E/M.E Mechanical
Shift Time: General
Location: Narhe - Pune (3 months from office) Then WFH
Experience: Extensive hands-on experience in MEP engineering design and calculations for the UK building services market.
*Deep Standards Expertise: Mastery of CIBSE codes, BS/BS EN standards, and UK Building Regulations.
Calculation Software Proficiency: Proven expertise using specialist design and analysis tools (such as h2x, MagicCAD, IES VE, Amtech/ProDesign). Familiarity with Revit is a plus for design review, but the core focus is engineering output.
Communication & Technical Writing: Exceptional written and spoken English, with a demonstrated ability to draft clear technical reports, specifications, and communicate design rationale effectively with UK-based lead consultants and clients.
Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills focused on energy efficiency, sustainability (Net Zero/Passivhaus principles), and resolving complex technical challenges during early design phases.
