Job Summary

Lead the planning, design, and execution of building systems projects for clients across our Science & Technology and Mission Critical markets, including laboratories, life sciences facilities, pharmaceutical environments, telecommunications facilities, data centers, and secure government spaces. This role requires a technically strong engineer who can effectively manage client relationships, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions from concept through construction.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships through responsive communication, technical expertise, and exceptional service.
  • Contribute towards / lead mechanical engineering design efforts for projects ranging from renovations and tenant fit-outs to complex new construction developments.
  • Manage time and efforts over multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
  • Conduct field investigations, facility assessments, and building systems surveys to support design and technical recommendations.
  • Develop and oversee HVAC system designs, including heating and cooling load calculations, equipment sizing, system selection, and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical specifications, system narratives, reports, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Select and integrate mechanical equipment including air handling units, pumps, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, fans, and specialized systems.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, architectural, and owner stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, presentations, and construction progress meetings.
  • Support construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, field reports, and project closeout.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, client requirements, and firm quality standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while fostering a collaborative, team-first culture.
  • Partner with technical leaders and project teams to balance workloads, resolve technical challenges, and identify opportunities for additional services.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in MEP consulting engineering, including mechanical system design and project coordination.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, laboratory, life sciences, mission critical, telecommunications, or similar complex facilities.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, HVAC systems, building controls, and energy-efficient design practices.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with Revit and BIM-based project delivery preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to interact confidently with clients, contractors, and project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5+ years relevant engineering design and project management experience
  • Revit experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical/HVAC systems and equipment selection (pumps, chillers, fans, boilers)
  • Ability to perform heating and cooling load calculations and prepare specifications and drawings
  • Understanding of applicable design and building codes
  • Construction administration and field inspection experience, including site surveys and inspection reporting
  • Ability to perform physical site tasks (climbing ladders, accessing ceilings, crawling, lifting)
