Albacore Inc. is a Philadelphia-based company building highly-capable, mass-producible drone submarines to defend sovereign waters of America and allied nations. We are backed with more than $10 million from Y Combinator and venture capital investors.
Our team is hiring mechanical engineering interns to join our team for the summer.
During that timeframe, you will help us:
- Scale vehicle production to double-digits.
- Conduct international demonstrations to NATO.
- Blow up a ship (legally).
Role description:
- Contribute to mechanical design, integration, and validation efforts, supporting structural layouts, packaging, sealing strategies, and subsystem integration (propulsion, sensing, power).
- Design and fabricate custom hardware to enable component verification, system integration, and performance evaluation, applying a strong first-principles engineering approach.
- Execute focused technical investigations to assess new concepts, mechanisms, and materials that improve performance, reliability, and durability.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience designing and building mechanical or electromechanical systems.
- Proficient in CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) with working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and design for manufacturability; capable of producing clear, production-ready documentation.
- Skilled in structural analysis, material selection, and environmental design considerations including pressure, vibration, and corrosion for marine applications.
- Comfortable with hands-on prototyping, fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and iterative testing in laboratory and field environments.

What We Do
Albacore Inc. is a Philadelphia-based company building highly-capable, mass-producible drone submarines to defend sovereign waters of America and allied nations. We are backed with more than $10 million from Y Combinator and venture capital investors.
Why Work With Us
We’re focused on mass-producible, long-range drone submarines that can travel ~1,000 nautical miles and be deployed in real-world environments. What makes Albacore unique is the chance to own meaningful systems end-to-end in a lean, fast-moving environment, with designs tested in the field instead of waiting years for impact.
