The Role
Design and develop structures, mechanisms, fixtures, tooling, and hardware for a marine robot that cleans and inspects ships. Own components or systems from requirements through testing, perform mechanical and finite element analysis, source hardware, and collaborate with electrical, firmware, GNC, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate reliable vehicle hardware.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team in designing a marine robot to clean and inspect ships, even while in transit. This robot must operate in a challenging flow and corrosion environment, requiring rigorous and creative design solutions with high reliability.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design of structures, mechanisms, and fixtures as needed for the robot and its ancillary devices.
- Procuring hardware and designing tooling for the same as needed to realize their designs.
- Own a component, process, or system on our robotic platform from design requirements through to realization & testing.
- Work with a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate EE, FW, and GNC requirements with vehicle hardware.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with hardware design, fabrication, and assembly.
- Experience in mechanical analysis, analytic and Finite Element Method (FEM/FEA).
- Proficiency in Computed Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g. Solidworks, CATIA, Siemens NX).
- Available to complete a 12-week internship in summer 2027.
- US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in robotic hardware design.
- Experience in non-linear Finite Element Modeling (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS).
- Experience in CNC machining and other common manufacturing methods.
- Knowledge of GD&T methods and practices.
- Experience in hardware sourcing and procurement.
- 1+ summer’s work experience in jobs related to mechanical engineering, OR 1+ years of practical experience on a student build team (FSAE Driverless, Rocketry, etc.).
- Pursuing a 4-year degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
Skills Required
- Experience with hardware design, fabrication, and assembly
- Experience in mechanical analysis and analytical and finite element method analysis
- Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX
- Availability to complete a 12-week internship during summer 2027
- US work authorization without current or future visa sponsorship requirements
