The Mechanical Engineer (ME) supports the Maintenance and Process Engineering departments by assisting Mechanical and Electrical Technicians with projects, assignments, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role applies to standard engineering principles, practices, and procedures to improve equipment reliability, process efficiency, and product quality.
Under the direction of the Plant Engineering or Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Engineer assists with engineering design, develops and creates technical drawings, implements equipment modifications, and recommends process and equipment improvements to enhance operational performance and manufacturing conditions.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
- S.M.E or S.M.E preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications, certifications, and/or licenses)
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to driving and promoting a proactive safety culture
- Experience with contractor coordination and negotiations
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and shift priorities effectively
- Strong problem-solving capability with hands-on experience applying methodologies such as 8D, Six Sigma, PFMEA, DMAIC, and other root cause analysis and continuous improvement tools.
- Experience managing material and labor costs within departmental budgets
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CAD software
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with machine and process improvements
- Support relocation and installation of new equipment by developing installation drawings and providing guidance to maintenance teams and contractors
- Conduct meetings with contractors to review drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Obtain project quotations and serve as the primary contact for contractors
- Order parts and supplies necessary to complete projects
- Create and maintain CAD drawings and related documentation, including work orders and contractor forms
- Coordinate project requirements with Engineering, Operations, and external contractors
- Participate in planning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement meetings
- Maintain working knowledge of standard factory equipment, manufacturing processes, and machine shop operating conditions
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Improving process yield, throughput, flexibility, productivity, and capacity
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience designing, specifying, and commissioning tools, equipment, tests, and manufacturing methods
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
