About the team
CFA Institute works with a global network of CFA Societies: member-led organisations that bring investment professionals together in their local markets through professional learning, events, advocacy and community.
Society Relations is the bridge between those societies and CFA Institute. The Americas team is expanding its relationship management model to give every society consistent, proactive and high-quality support.
About the role
As Manager, Society Relations, you'll be the primary CFA Institute relationship contact for an assigned portfolio of societies across the Americas region. You'll work closely with society boards, staff and volunteer leaders to understand their local needs and market context, support their business planning and governance, and connect them with the CFA Institute resources and expertise that help them deliver more value to members.
You'll operate independently with your societies, helping them translate goals into practical actions and tracking progress against agreed priorities, while drawing on the regional Society Relations leader and Senior Manager for guidance on more complex governance, funding, market or stakeholder matters.
What you'll do
- Build strong working relationships with the boards, staff and volunteer leaders of your assigned societies, through regular check-ins, planning conversations and follow-up.
- Get to know each society's governance, operating model, member value proposition, leadership dynamics and market context.
- Support annual business planning, strategic planning, reporting and alignment with CFA Institute service standards.
- Review business plans and submissions to spot progress, gaps, risks and support needs, and track follow-through on commitments and funded initiatives.
- Offer practical guidance on governance, board transitions, volunteer engagement and operational effectiveness, connecting societies to relevant tools, training and experts.
- Help societies develop funding requests, project concepts, budgets and success measures, and monitor progress on funded activities.
- Coordinate with Society Operations, Communications, Membership, Education, Advocacy, Marketing and other teams so societies get joined-up support.
- Support regional meetings, conferences, webinars and society leader forums, and deliver occasional consulting and business-planning engagements for societies outside your portfolio.
- Escalate complex or sensitive governance, financial or reputational issues to senior colleagues, and contribute portfolio insights to AMER planning and reporting.
What you'll bring
- 5–7 years' experience in association management, professional membership organisations, stakeholder or partnership management, client relationship management, financial services, nonprofit management or a comparable field.
- Experience managing stakeholder or client relationships and supporting senior volunteers, boards, committees or member-led groups.
- A background in planning, project coordination, member engagement, governance support or organisational improvement.
- Experience working across multiple stakeholders, functions or markets.
- Strong relationship management and consulting skills, with the diplomacy and judgement to work well with volunteer leaders.
- Excellent organisation, planning and follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- The ability to understand a society's needs and turn them into practical next steps, and to spot risks and escalate them appropriately.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A bachelor's degree, and the CFA Institute Investment Foundations Certificate or willingness to complete it within an agreed period after joining.
- Association management or financial services experience, working knowledge of association governance or nonprofit operations, or related coursework or certification are a plus.
