Job Purpose
The Manager, Market Business Development (APAC) leads the Market Business Development function across the Asia-Pacific region, overseeing a team of Business Development professionals in Japan, China, and South Korea.
As a player-coach, this role combines people leadership, regional market development strategy, and selective business development engagement to drive commercial growth across APAC. Working closely with Marketing, Account Executives, Commercial Leadership, and Business Units, the incumbent will strengthen market development capabilities, accelerate opportunity creation, and contribute to Parexel’s long-term growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership & Team Development (50%)
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Market Business Development professionals across APAC.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and customer-focused culture.
  • Set individual and team objectives aligned with regional commercial priorities.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and development planning.
  • Monitor team effectiveness through defined business development KPIs.
  • Drive employee engagement, retention, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Support hiring and onboarding activities.
Regional Strategy & Commercial Leadership (25%)
  • Develop and execute market development strategies aligned with APAC growth objectives.
  • Partner with Commercial Leadership, Marketing, and Business Units to identify and prioritize market opportunities.
  • Analyze market trends, business performance, and pipeline health to drive continuous improvement.
  • Standardize market development processes and best practices across the region.
  • Provide regular business updates, reporting, and strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate with global stakeholders to align regional activities with broader commercial initiatives.
Business Development & Customer Engagement (25%)
  • Support strategic business development initiatives and key commercial opportunities.
  • Guide the team in lead qualification and early-stage opportunity progression.
  • Partner with Account Executives and Sales Leaders to improve conversion outcomes.
  • Participate in customer meetings, industry conferences, and business development activities as appropriate.
  • Act as a commercial advisor and escalation point for complex opportunities.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, CRO, biotechnology, medical device, or healthcare-related industries.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including leading geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience in business development, inside sales, commercial operations, or sales leadership.
  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen, including experience using performance metrics to drive results.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Business-level English proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global matrix organization.
Preferred
  • Experience leading regional teams across APAC.
  • Prior CRO or life sciences services industry experience.
  • Experience with Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and CRM-based reporting.
  • Experience leading inside sales, SDR, BDR, or market development organizations.
  • MBA or other advanced degree.
Working Environment
