Located in the Seattle area, Cascade applies its fundamental, long-horizon investment approach across asset classes and geographies, primarily through direct investing, as well as through a select group of funds and segregated accounts.  Cascade offers the unique blend of being part of a team that manages a multi-billion-dollar portfolio while also working with professionals in a culture that values intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and respect.

Team Description
Our 19-person legal and regulatory team prioritizes collaboration, creativity, and innovation. In addition to providing superb legal advice, our team focuses on building deep relationships to add value to our investment process.

Position Description
The Legal Operations Analyst will design, maintain, and enhance systems and tools that support legal operations, with a strong emphasis on data integrity, analytics and reporting, automation, generative AI, and process optimization. This role supports the legal and regulatory team’s work on trading, transactions, risk and assurance, and compliance matters related to our diverse public and private portfolio. This role bridges the gap between legal and technical domains and is ideal for someone who has worked inside legal workflows, is proficient in Power BI, and actively experiments with AI tools. The analyst will be responsible for developing and managing workflows, legal datasets, and scalable solutions that improve efficiency and support Cascade’s legal and compliance efforts. This role collaborates cross-functionally with legal, technology, and other investment operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data & Reporting: Build and maintain Power BI dashboards, data models, and reporting that give the legal team and leadership visibility into legal, compliance, and risk and assurance data

  • Legal Tech Systems: Oversee systems and processes for various legal data and workflows, including knowledge management, trade support, regulatory compliance, employee trading, vendor contracts, enterprise risk management, assurance, and more. Administer, populate, and report from multiple databases that capture information about our legal entities, investments, trading restrictions, counterparties, workflows, and other matters

  • Process Optimization & Automation: Identify operational inefficiencies and propose and implement scalable, tech-enabled solutions; own and evolve workflows

  • Enterprise Risk: Maintain dynamic risk assessment frameworks and tools to facilitate annual risk reviews, assurance activities, and reports to leadership

  • AI Exploration & Implementation: Research and evaluate emerging AI tools relevant to legal and compliance functions, providing recommendations on adoption and designing and executing implementation plans. Configure and maintain AI capabilities such as review playbooks, custom skills and prompts, and contract intelligence repositories, testing and iterating on outputs with accountability for quality. Stay current on legal tech and AI trends to inform system enhancements and innovation opportunities

  • Training & Adoption: Drive adoption of legal technology and AI across the legal and regulatory team through demonstrations, user guides, and feedback loops, and track and report adoption and outcomes

  • Project Management: Participate in and manage legal and cross-department projects

  • How You'll Work
You will work on systems and projects end-to-end, from scoping through delivery. Much of your work may start out underspecified, as a problem with no established process, incomplete data, and no obvious owner, and you will be expected to figure out the path forward. We are looking for someone who:

  • Can take a problem and run with it, applying genuine curiosity and practical judgment to make reasonable calls with sometimes imperfect information, while seeking guidance when required and escalating things that genuinely need escalating

  • Stays with hard problems, finding a third approach when the first two fail rather than handing the problem back

  • Commits to dates and hits them, and flags slippage early when a date is at risk

  • Seeks out direct feedback and acts on it quickly

  • Is comfortable working without a detailed roadmap in an environment where priorities shift

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic credentials in a relevant field (e.g. pre-law, business analytics, computer science, or similar)

  • Three to six years of experience in legal operations, legal technology, compliance operations, or a comparable analytical role, with direct exposure to legal or compliance workflows

  • Strong Power BI skills preferred, including data modeling, DAX, and dashboard design, plus strong Excel skills and hands-on familiarity with Smartsheet; experience with SQL and Power Apps is a strong plus

  • Experience with legal tools, such as GC AI, Harvey, Legora, CoCounsel, or comparable is a strong plus

  • Hands-on experience with AI tools along with a demonstrated appetite for experimentation, and a practical understanding of where these tools succeed and where they fail

  • Familiarity with data security, information governance, and compliance considerations for AI and legal technology is a plus

  • Strong analytical and process improvement skills; ability to work with complex data and systems

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to present confidently and to lead demonstrations and training sessions for groups

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment with internal and external contacts at all levels, establishing credibility with senior stakeholders and translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
