Join Brown Sims' Houston office as a Legal Assistant with our Defense Base Act team and become a key member of our busy State and Federal Litigation team. This role offers the opportunity to support experienced litigators in a fast-paced insurance defense practice while working in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
How Will You Make a Difference?
- Provide litigation and administrative support to three or more attorneys.
- Prepare, revise, proofread, and format legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and reports.
- File legal documents electronically federal administrative law courts.
- Maintain attorney calendars and monitor court deadlines.
- Coordinate hearings, depositions, mediations, meetings, and other case-related events.
- Manage case files and maintain accurate electronic and physical records.
- Prepare and organize litigation materials, exhibits, and case documents.
- Track and process incoming correspondence, court notices, and filings.
- Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, and vendors.
- Assist attorneys with day-to-day case management and workflow coordination.
- Prioritize multiple assignments while ensuring deadlines and client expectations are met.
What Will You Bring to the Table?
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary in a law firm environment.
- Experience supporting four or more attorneys simultaneously.
- Knowledge of litigation procedures; insurance defense experience preferred.
- Experience filing documents electronically.
- Knowledge of calendaring deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
