The Payloads organization within Boeing Commercial Aircraft 787 Program is seeking Experience or Senior Lead Design Engineers in North Charleston, South Carolina. The Payloads organization is responsible for everything you see when you fly; and a lot that you don't: The passenger interior of the airplane, along with the flight and attendant crew rests, cargo compartments, exterior markings/livery, associated systems, and cabin safety are all covered by Payloads. We enable our airline customers to fulfill their mission and represent their brand. The Payloads organization is a fast paced, dynamic environment, which pulls from many engineering backgrounds. This role is for a Lead Design Engineer who will drive technical strategy, lead multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure delivery of safe, certifiable and manufacturable interiors products.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead engineering direction and technical strategy for assigned Payloads team across requirements, development, certification, production, and post-production phases.
  • Provide technical leadership and be the primary technical point of contact for customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manages engineering work statement and execution, demonstrating technical excellence and first pass quality.
  • Ensure design compliance with applicable regulations (FAA/EASA), Boeing and customer requirements
  • Drive technical design reviews and lead configuration management activities, change control, and release processes in coordination with product and program teams.
  • Foster culture of continuous improvement, lessons-learned capture, and team capability development.
  • Coordinates with internal and external multi-disciplinary functions to support new design development, meet customer needs, and validate requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, with demonstrated experience in design, integration, and certification in aerospace or closely related industries.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with customers and suppliers
  • Experience presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Level 4: 9+ years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification or equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams and driving technical programs to delivery
  • Deep working knowledge of FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent.
  • Prior experience in commercial aircraft interiors, cargo systems, or avionics/lighting integration.
  • Experience in program or project management: schedule development/execution, resource planning, cost estimation, and risk management.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability/assembly and production readiness activities.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and developing technical teams.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools/processes, CAD tools, and systems engineering practices.
  • Experience in customer-focused teams; strong systems and interface management; supplier management experience
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement certifications desirable.

Pay Range Summary:

Summary pay range Experienced Level 3: $103,700 - $140,300
Summary pay range Senior Level 4: $126,650 - $171,350
