Your role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Lawyer/Associate to join our Projects team in Melbourne. This is a fantastic opportunity for lawyers interested in working in a collaborative and high performing team advising on some of the most complex and interesting transactions in the energy and infrastructure sector.

As part of our team, you will play an important role delivering client work on market-leading projects and transactions and working with us to identify and win new work opportunities. The key features of this role are the challenging work you will experience, the variety of transactions you can expect to get involved in and the broad range of clients and people you will work with.

Your role will typically include:

  • Acting for significant players in the energy and infrastructure sector on key documents such as offtake and power purchase agreements, connection agreements, construction documents, operating and maintenance arrangements, development agreements and energy and green product trades

  • Providing subject matter expertise in relation to acquisitions and disposals of energy assets, from undertaking legal due diligence, through input into transaction documents and completion.

  • Conducting legal and regulatory analysis relevant to energy and infrastructure projects, including regulatory approvals, risk allocation and interface issues; and

  • Contributing to business development initiatives in the energy and infrastructure sector.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. At Allens we have a hybrid working structure, typically 60% in the office and 40% from home. We would be happy to discuss any other flexible working arrangements that best support you.

About you

You will have:

  • Experience advising on a broad range of project development transactions at a well-regarded international or Australian firm, ideally in the energy and infrastructure sector.

  • An ability to work independently and effectively manage smaller matters and elements of larger matters.

  • A strong team ethic, this aspect of our culture is of key importance to us.

  • A willingness to develop others through mentoring and sharing experiences and networks. 

  • An interest in building an understanding of clients and developing effective working relationships with clients.

  • A willingness to participate in business development activities, such as pitch documents, firm-wide pursuits, attending industry events and hosting seminars.
